DEPARTMENT UCAYALI

The story of the department of Ucayali 1 had originated

in the Amazon rainforest from 4000 B.C. its first
inhabitants were a part of the Pano family. However, as
Chibcha and Arawak cultures were part of the same
family.2 There are several theories. According to
Donald Lathrap, it was the course Ucayali River where
the first settlers migrated in the tenth century AD. c.
According to Betty Meggers, were the Panos its
incipient agriculture the main source.
Later, thanks to the exploration of Captain Juan de
Salinas and Loyola in 1557, began his colonized.
Among their cultures they are adapted to the current
Shipibo-Conibos, Shetebos and pisquibos. The change
from province to department or region was during his
announcement on October 13, 1980, because of a
peaceful petition by pucallpinos where he was known
as the Pucallpazo. Unfortunately, the lack of
commitment of the State in control of native
communities generated controversy. In 1990, places
like the province of Atalaya or Purus had difficult
access to basic services, provide food. According to the
activist Pedro Garca-Hierro, lawyer at the
Complutense University of Madrid, he published a
series of reports that revealed the territorial and cultural
violation by third industriales.

GEOGRAPHY
Its northern part is very rough by the presence of the
"Blue Mountains" which has steep slopes and deep
valleys, the most important river canyon called
"Boquern del Padre Abad", formed by the Yuracyacu
River, one of the landscapes natural scenic beauty that
has greater Peru. Aspects that become vertical, with
arboreal vegetation growing on rock and numerous
waterfalls with crystal clear water falling from above
100 meters high, form together an impressive and
unforgettable panorama. One of the most famous
waterfalls is called "Candle Bride" or "Pokrovskaya"
which is the end of the canyon and started the Pampa
de Sacramento.South west of the department, called
Cordillera del Sira has a rugged topography. This relief
is the divide between the Ucayali River with the
Pachitea and Pichis.East of the Blue Mountains a relief
of plains, which begins isolated hills emerge.
Near the borders of Brazil, are the reliefs of
Contamana, low-lying hills culminating at 788 meters.
On the banks of the Ucayali alternate non-floodable
high terraces but sometimes heavily eroded, turning
into swamps called "tahuampas" or "aguajales".From
the hydrographic point of view, the Ucayali River is the
collector surface waters draining its territory. In the
department, it has two well-characterized areas: The
Upper and Lower Ucayali Ucayali. It is navigable in its
entirety and the main port is Pucallpa, so far as boats up
to 8 feet deep. The main tributaries of the Ucayali are
the Cohenga, Tahuania, Sheshea, Pachitea and
Aguayta. There are many gaps as Yarinacocha, Unira
and Chioa. He is the youngest department of Peru, was
created in the year 1,980. It is considered the door that
connects the country with all the Peruvian Amazon.

WEATHER
The climate is mainly belonging to the (warm) tropical
rainforest, there is little variation between temperatures
of day and night, the rains are plentiful but not as in the
High Forest. On the tops and sides of the Cordillera of
the Sira and the Blue Mountains, the daytime
temperature is high and the nights are low, giving the
feeling of cold. There is also a lot of clouds on the
summits of these mountainous terrain. There is a
phenomenon called "Cold San Juan", in which the
temperature drops sharply for about 4 days. This is
because air masses Front Antarctic break off and
penetrate the South American continent by the
depression of the Rio de la Plata, continues through the
depression of Parana and enter Peru by Madre de Dios
and continue north toward the area equatorial low
pressure.
Rainy Cycle: February, March, April and May.
semi dry cycle: June, July and August.
Dry Cycle: September, October and November.
