SURPRISE PARTY
Washingtons business luminaries normally shell out to more
right-leaning candidates than left donations to John McCain
and Mitt Romney overtook those to Barack Obama in 2008
and 2012. But so far this year, the Democrats and Hillary
Clinton have captured both attention and checks.

Q SOMEBODY MISSING?

Jeb Bush

As of March 31, not a single one

of these executives had made any
donations recorded by the FEC
to either presumptive Republican
nominee Donald Trump, or to Ted
Cruz, who just dropped out of the
race in May.

FOLLOW THE MONEY: WHOS LEADING IN THE POLS?

WHOS GIVING THE MOST?

These are the local business leaders who doled out the most in total campaign donations to 2016 presidential candidates, and the
PACs and super PACs tied to them, starting in 2015. A few had bet big on Marco Rubio before he pulled out of the race. In fact,
Rubios presidential PAC began taking donations as early as 2010, when he was only facing a Senate race. Our executives, including
Steve Case and NVRs Dwight Schar, had contributed a combined $27,467 to that Rubio PAC between 2010 and 2014, before he even
declared a run for the presidency.

Weve already learned that Hillary Clinton is leading the way in 2016 campaign contributions from these executives so far. But heres more granularity for each candidates
donations, including those below the $2,700 limit. These figures, as of March 31, include direct donations to the candidates, as well to as their PACs and super PACs.

THE CORPORATE CONTRIBUTION

Here are some of the Washington areas biggest corporate donors. Many of our top executives donated to their own corporate PAC instead of directly to a candidate. This makes it more difficult to see exactly who they intended to support, but most corporate PACs end up donating to a mix of candidates from both parties.
