Cat External
Payload Display

Underloading Cat trucks can compromise machine productivity,

while overloading trucks can cause excessive wear to drive train
components, frames and tires, drastically impacting costs. With
Caterpillars Truck Payload Monitoring System (TPMS) and Vital
Information Management System (VIMS), truck operators can
maintain proper payload weight control, minimize underloading
and overloading, and ultimately lower cost per ton.
Caterpillars Mining and Earthmoving Technology Systems
(METS) group has developed a new tool to help optimize payload
and production. The Cat External Payload Display displays
measured payload on haul trucks during loading and roading for
shovel and loader operators. By making VIMS and TPMS payload
information available and visible to machine operators and mine
managers, haul trucks can be used more efficiently.

For Dealer Sales Personnel

The display consists of a large 14" x 27" (356 x 686 mm) screen
mounted on the side of a haul truck, displaying measured payload
in 10" (254 mm) red digital numbers. Loading tool operators can
view the screen and quickly determine if the truck is full or if they
need to make another pass. Experienced operators can consistently
optimize truck payload by observing the display and adjusting
bucket fill factors based on payloads of trucks previously loaded.
The display is available in three configurations: right only, left only,
and right and left combination. The screen displays in English or
metric units and offers excellent visibility, even in bright daylight.
The display connects through the telemetry port and provides a
communication feed through additional devices.
