INTRODUCING
Galway’s Little Havana Festival the Little Havana Street Carnaval as this celebration of colour and sound
Galway’s Little Havana Festival is a brand new Festival taking place in the city’s Latin Quarter
on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the June Bank Holiday Weekend.
An eclectic and fun-filled Latin Street Party, this three-day programme of free events brings
the rhythms and sounds of Havana to the medieval streets of Galway.
Featuring an exciting line-up of performances (from 7pm each evening, 6pm on Saturday)
right across the Latin Quarter by authentic Cuban Bands, Salsa Dancers, Latino Djs and
Percussionists and a range of related daytime street activities, the Festival will transform
the district into a Cuban oasis.
The festival kicks off at 7pm on Friday with an outdoor performance on Mainguard St
by the wonderful Cuban All Stars, followed at 8pm by the colourful Carnaval Parade of
pulsating percussion and performance through the streets of the Latin Quarter. The street
entertainment that evening concludes with the energetic and exciting Rumba Caliente. Not
to be missed, so get to Galway early on Friday!
The weekend’s programme of activities continues right through until Sunday and features
a Tapas Trail in many of the Latin Quarter’s bars and fine restaurants. Where you can also
enjoy the fine taste of Cuba’s authentic Havana Club cocktails.
On Sunday afternoon, a Family Fun Day takes place on the area’s pedestrianised streets.
The Latin Quarter is the area of Galway situated on the left bank of the Corrib - defined by
some of the city’s most historic landmarks, it stretches from Spanish Arch at Long Walk to
O’Brien’s Bridge to St Nicholas’ Church and back (via Buttermilk Lane) to An Taibhdhearc
on Middle St. It is home to Galway’s Saturday Market, Galway City Museum and the
internationally acclaimed Druid Theatre Company. It is also home to many of Galway’s
quirkiest and best-known shops, pubs and restaurants, and has for years played host to
much of Galway’s renowned cultural activity. Its extensive pedestrianised streets have a
unique atmosphere and provide the heartbeat to Galway’s renowned social scene, providing
the ideal backdrop for this exciting new event.

THE CUBAN ALL STARS
The Cuban All Stars are a 100% authentic live Cuban band based in Ireland.
The bands tight sound draws from old rhythms to the latest Latin mix
influence filtered through the multicultural energy of Europe.
LITTLE HAVANA CARNAVAL
To mark the beginning of Little Havana Festival Latin Quarter Galway, join
weaves its way through Galway’s medieval pedestrianised streets. Latin
dance, percussion & street theatre will bring the true spirit of Havana to life.

SALSA CELTICA
Salsa Celtica is a stunning combination of virtuosity and energy,
making them one of the most exciting groups on the world music
circuit today. Salsa Celtica’s synthesis of Scottish and Irish
traditional music with all the Latin American elements of salsa
has taken them and their music all over the world.
NORMAN JAY
One of England’s foremost DJs ever since his Jamaican-style Good Times
Sound System debuted at London’s Notting Hill Carnival in 1980, Norman
Jay pioneered the sound of rare groove, house, and acid jazz during the
heady days of the UK’s increasing ascendancy in the global dance scene.
Along with Gilles Peterson, Norman Jay was one of the most important
trendsetters as rare groove became acid jazz during the late ‘80s and early
‘90s. He is arguably one of the finest and most respected deejays in the
world today.
SABOR CUBANO
Created in 2002 by producer and musician Danilo Karell, Sabor Cubano is
an eclectic five piece. This talented musical group combines Cuban rhythm
with many other Latin styles including Bossa Nova, Samba, Mexican,
Argentinian & Peruvian influences.
DJ FLOIRAN BRAVO
An eclectic DJ; with styles ranging from his native Cuba – both
traditional and contemporary, through RnB, hip hop, Latin jazz,
& disco. Credited as the launch DJ at London’s legendary Floridita,
Floiran has since played at Café de Paris, Momo’s, Cargo & The Green
Room. A regular fixture on the London Fashion Week party scene -
Floiran brings his unique sound to The Latin Quarter!
RUMBA CALIENTE
Rumba Caliente are one of the UK’s most exciting salsa-soul groups with
a unique Afro-Latin/Salsa-Soul sound. Combining musicians from the
heartlands of salsa (Cuba, Venezuela and New York) with some of Europe’s
most exciting jazz and world musicians.
GILLES PETERSON PRESENTS HAVANA CULTURA
Gilles Peterson is a world-renowned tastemaker who has been
entertaining millions since the late 1980’s. His never-ending
quest for the perfect beat led him recently to Havana.
It was an experiment to witness the effect new Cuban sounds
would have on him and vice-versa. Today he presents Havana
Cultura what he describes as a ‘musical mélange’ - something new,
something fresh, and something not just Buena Vista Social Club....
Bringing together the street, the urban and the more traditional.”
CUBAN JAZZ PROJECT
Cuban Jazz Project is a 100% authentic Cuban act; performing
their unique style of Afro-Cuban jazz and traditional Cuban
rhythms with soul. This lively three piece ensemble perform
faithful yet unique renditions of Latin classics - all blended
with hits from across the generations.
CUBA LIBRE
With its unique sound – a powerful blend of brass, piano & percussion – the
members of Cuba Libre have performed all over the world; collaborating with
some of the biggest names in the salsa genre. Performing on their
doorstep, Cuba Libre is a performance not to be missed!
CUBAN COMBINATION
Cuban Combination brings a new mix of styles and distinctive hybrid
vigour to their music, with a newer and funkier edge. Based in London,
this 6 piece have been polishing their ever growing repertoire on some
of its most prestigious stages – from The National Theatre to
Ronnie Scotts. Their sound is brassy, bass heavy and altogether
banging! Real musicians, forged in Cuba’s second city and cauldron
of Santiago, playing real music. A performance not to be missed!

DJ Ray McDonnell AKA El Ray’s Saturday night Galway residency
had music fans & dancers travelling from all over the country to hear
Latin music fusions from New York, Havana, Rio, Dakar & beyond.
Expect Latino beats from Colombia, Descargas from Cuba, Hip-Hop
from Guatemala and more - joining the dots of Latin
music with a party vibe!
Family Fun Day: Sunday 1pm-4pm
On Sunday afternoon enjoy fun for all the family, packed full of on-street
activity throughout The Latin Quarter. Activities will include face painting,
balloon modelling, street art, a range of street games (including hop skotch,
chess and draughts), free Salsa and percussion classes - culminating in
Ireland’s longest Conga Line starting (from the bottom of High St. to Shop
