1: This photo shows Bilbo Bagginss house, which is in the Ordinary World. The photo also
reveals some of the details of Bilbos living conditions. So, it shows the conditions of the
Ordinary World, from Bilbos standpoint.
2: This photo shows Bilbo standing on the front porch of his house. It symbolizes The Call to
Adventure because the photo is showing what Bilbo imagines the journey (to the Lonely
Mountain) to be in its first moments.
3: In this photo, Bilbo is delineated at a moment when he not agreeing to the idea of journeying
to the Lonely Mountain. That means that Bilbo refuses to the call of adventure (or the call of
his companions).
4: Here, Bilbo is shown to be meeting with his mentor, Gandalf. He tells Bilbo all sorts of details
about their journey to the Lonely Mountain. Also, Gandalf tells Bilbo all about the different
perks their journey will include.
5: In this photo, the three trolls are pictured. They represent Crossing the Threshold because
they were the first creatures that started creating problems for Thorin and Company. So, they
(trolls and the problems the trolls created) symbolize the beginning of problems, and the crossing
into the Special World.
6: This photo shows Gollum, who is an enemy of Bilbo. Gollum was one of the Tests, Allies
and Enemies in Bilbos journey.
7: This photo shows the opening of the Lonely Mountain, which is the approach of this novel.
This photo represents the approach, because this photo shows the preparations that happened
right before the ordeal.
8: This photo shows the ordeal of Bilbos journey, or the moment when Bilbo, alone, confronts
Smaug for the first time. During this ordeal, Bilbo faces his greatest fear, or the fear of Smaug.
9: This photo represents the reward of the journey, which is treasure like gold, silver, gems, and
the Arkenstone. The photo shows some gold that Bilbo could have taken from the Lonely
Mountain when he was leaving it (the mountain).
10: This photo shows literally what it is supposed to, the road back to the hobbit shire. The photo
represents The Road Back, because it shows a part of Bilbos road back.
11: This photo shows Bilbo with a sword (actually a dagger named Sting), in the Battle of
Five Armies. The photo represents The Recursion because here, Bilbo faces life and death
situations for the last time in his journey.

12: This photo shows Bilbo with the magic ring. This photo represents Return with the Elixir,
because the ring was one part of the treasure he received (or found), the other part was a change
in the perception of other fellow hobbits.
