THE POSTGRAD INQUIRY PROJECT


Introduction to the Inquiry Project
The Inquiry Project is a small scale research project that engages all students to
undergo a scientific inquiry process in examining practical, real life, HR-related issues in
the educational context. In the Postgrad Inquiry Project, students work collaboratively
with their mini research group members to plan, design, carry out and report a
project.Based on the findings, students give suggestions/solutions for enhancing
teacher and school effectiveness.
Through this project, students are expected to be able to fulfill LO2 & LO3:
LO2: Explain the importance of HRM in education for school effectiveness.
LO3: Analyze the current human resource practices in terms of HRM in
Malaysian educational context and give feedback on the relevant issues
pertaining to the practices.

Instruction
For this Postgrad Inquiry Project, all groups are required to focus on this topic:
"The status of teacher collegiality, perceptions towards school as learning organization,
willingness to learn continuously and rating of individual job performance".
This project is divide into 3 phases.
Phase 1: Planning and designing
i- Find related articles
ii- Literature review (find, read, analyze and synthesis articles related to the topic) and
then write about it.
iii- Design the study
Sample: i) minimum 30 teachers for questionnaire distribution
ii) minimum 2 participants (interview)
Method: quantitative (survey) and qualitative approach (structured
interview) or quantitative approach (interview)
Tool: Questionnaire & Interview protocol

Phase 2: Conducting the research


Collect data - distribute questionnaire and conduct interview (recorded)
Key in data in excel or spss; transcribe interview (verbatim
Analyse data
Interprete data

Phase 3: Reporting the findings


Prepare a short research report in the form of an article with this outline:

Research questions
Method
Findings
Discussion
Implications and suggestions
ii-Prepare slides for presentation
Format: Font - TNR 12 point; Spacing -1.5, 20 pages (exclusive of references)
