Writing Section Please answer the following questions.
1. Please explain why you are the right type of person to teach overseas.
One of the reasons why I am the right person to teach overseas is because I have experience in
traveling overseas. I have lived in Japan for three years, and vacationed to the Philippines where I
visit relatives. During those experiences I have never encountered negative interactions. I always
feel my work ethic and qualities represent the kind of employee I am and so it is important to me to
do my best. With this mindset, I believe I have the appropriate traits to teach overseas.

2. Please explain what qualities you think are necessary to be a good teacher.
To succeed as a good teacher, I believe there are certain qualities one must have. The teacher must
be well aware what group of students he/she is teaching. A goal in mind should be to build a
positive relationship with the class. The room will be filled with several varieties of personalities
and it will be important to get to know individual students and the class as a whole to become an
effective teacher. Also, a teacher must be patient with the class, since a class is a diverse group, one
must expect a variable learning curve. Good teachers should be self-confident and knowledgeable
in the subject they are teaching and the method used to present it.

3. Please describe how you would deal with a workplace dispute with another co-worker or supervisor.
A good method to handle a dispute within a workplace is to have an individual or party play the role
as a mediator. The mediator could hear the conflict of both sides, and find a way to address both of
their concerns. This would greatly help in preventing the dispute from escalating further and create
a solution to the problem.

4. Please describe some actions you could take if you began feeling homesick or lonely while in Korea.
Feeling homesick or lonely would not be an issue for me. This was never a problem while I was
attending Washington State University or visiting other countries. I have the tools I need to keep
contact with family and friends whenever I would be overseas. I would manage as an independent
person and if need be find hobbies to occupy what free time I have. Also being in a new country, I
think I would be too busy learning about the new culture, than having to worry about being
homesick.

5. Do you have any other plans for your time in Korea? (Further study, hobbies to pursue, places to
visit?)
In addition to teaching English in Korea, I do see myself pursuing other endeavors. I would like to
learn the Korean language to a good extent. I plan on traveling around Korea from its rural to urban
areas learning about their history and modern day festivities. Along with my travels, I plan to try
different authentic foods from the areas I visit. Overall, I want to learn and experience the Korean
culture.
