The Civil Service Preliminary Examination is the 1st stage of process conducted by the UPSC.
Preliminary Examinations are only for qualify the candidates for Main Examination.
From 2011 onwards, the Preliminary examination, now popularly known as the Civil
Services Aptitude Test (CSAT).
The new pattern includes two papers of two hours duration and 200 marks each.
A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years to write the exam, however candidate
can start prepare for the exam well before 21 years

Traditional subjects like History, Geography, Indian polity should be covered first well
before Exam
Current oriented subjects can be studied in later days even nearest to Exam day without
much tension.

Learn from Questions and analyse each Mock Test papers to the core
Focus on Economic Survey, Science and Technology, India Year Book (Publication Division),
Yojana, Kurukshetra, Union Budget 2016, Railway Budget 2016
Identify important 100 important topics with Expected Questions and target them on last 2
weeks before exams

No need of Rush in answering questions in prelims as you have sufficient time available
Optimal utilisation of 2 hours allotted for the exam is must for best performance in the
Exam. Because there is NO Grace mark for the person who completes the test first.

Try to eliminate the wrong answers from the options, if you do not know the answers
directly for any questions
In the month of June and July 2016 try to solve Minimum 100 objective GS questions every
day to sharpen the Memory and answering the questions effectively on August 7th 2016
On Each mock test one should learn from the answer key and inculcate the habit of how to
avoid Negative score/Mark.

The UPSC has revised the pattern of Civil Services Main examination from 2015
The Civil Services Mains Examination consists of a written examination and an interview.
The written examination consists of nine papers, two qualifying and seven ranking in
nature.

While writing the answers read the question statement again and again in between writing
so that you can make sure always that you stick to the point
Write down the answers to the point as per requirement and Question Tag like- Discuss,
Elaborate, Elucidate, Describe , Differentiate, and etc
Prior to start writing the essay note down all important points randomly.
Selective Reading - Candidates need to judge what are important and which topics need
more focus.

Do not devote too much time on a single question, even if you know too much about it.
A solid study plan is a must while preparing for the IAS Exam
In-Depth Subject Knowledge about the various subjects in the General Studies or Optional
paper
Immediately before and during the examination, bring in use some light exercising, relaxing
and focusing techniques. Maintain your calm and composure at all times.

Current Affairs - Current affairs have always played a major role in Civil Services Main exam
Select the Right Books - When you pick the right useful books you are not required to read
multiple books to gather information.
Dont open lessons that you havent read before. It will give added stress to you.
Before on the day of Exam, give your body and mind good rest with at least 6- 7 hours of
undisturbed sleep.
All you need is a proper guidance and right strategy that boosts your confidence day by day
and helps you stay focused till you achieve your dream.
