Annual Meeting
An Annual Meeting is held each year at
the end of January at which new
Bishops Committee and Convention
Delegates are elected.
St. Francis Episcopal Church is a mission of the Episcopal Diocese of
Missouri.
June 2016
Pastors Corner
On their way they entered a villagebut
they did not receive [JesusHis disciples]
said, Lord, do you want us to command
fire to come down from heaven and consume them? But Jesus turned and rebuked
them. Luke 9:52-54, from the Gospel
reading for June 26, 2016
Im very grateful for the disciples, specifically for their inability to remember and implement Jesus teachings from what
seems like one moment to the next. Their failings are on a par with
my failings and those of the people around me. Thats reassuring,
because I know that Jesus deeply loves all of us. (Although I imagine theres some eye-rolling and deep sighing involved occasionally.)
It was earlier in this same chapter of Luke that Jesus sent
the disciples out in his name, telling them to teach and to heal. Jesus told them, Wherever they do not welcome you, as you are
leaving that town shake the dust off your feet. In the passage cited above, Jesus has been made to feel unwelcome and the disciples
are ready to rain down fire on the villagers. Retribution is not Jesus way.
Following Jesus requires risk-taking. Were asked to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ to strangers, knowing that they
may scoff or label us as one of those kind of Christians, (whatever that means). Were asked to welcome people we
dont understand and who may even scare us a little. Were asked
to forgive people who act egregiously, not because they deserve it
but because it is ruinous to our spiritual health to hold on to rage
and resentment. Following Jesus is not easy and often, just like the
disciples, we stumble. But it provides a life-giving, loving alternative to retribution, name-calling, and blaming. Its worth the risks.

Thanks be to you, loving God, for the richness of blessings that we enjoy in all areas
of our life, and especially for the future home of St. Francis Church. Lord, we are
very excited about the plans and process in which our once far-off dream of having
our own facility is coming to fruition. Help us continue to be open to your divine
guidance as we formulate ideas and implement goals as to how we may best utilize
this sacred space so that we can serve others and be witnesses to your love and
grace. We offer our sincere and humble gratitude for the success of our capital campaign and for the generous responses from parish members, our families, and personal and diocesan friends. We ask that our faith may be strengthened through sacrificial giving and help us to be true to our financial commitments to the Faith Under
Construction campaign. Now more than ever, we place our trust in you to be our
constant companion along this fabulous journey. In your Holy name we pray.
AMEN.

If you have further questions, talk to the Vicar. Pastor Sally values input and
is happy to have a conversation at any time about St. Francis.
COMMENTARY:
The pledge income appears low for the month, but is simply reflective of a large
pledge paid upfront for the year in January that will continue to make our YTD
amount higher than expected while monthly will continue to appear low.
OTHER MATTERS FOR THE COMMITTEE:
None at this time.
Respectfully submitted,

Mass in the Grass Drewel Park June 5 at 10:15

Vicar vacation Jun 10-15; the Rev. Anne Kelsey on Jun 12.
Pastor Sally reported on a book she recently read about the direction of mainline
churches between now and 2050.
As a result of this Sally wants to repeat our meetings with the Mayor, Police
Chief, Chamber of Commerce, Fire Chief, and School Superintendent to
help us on our ongoing desire to be an engaged neighborhood church.
Pastor Sally also asked the committee to think several years into the future to a
time when we might want to offer an electronic projection of the worship
bulletin. She will also discuss this with Worship and Music.
The committee spent some time discussing the possibilities of opening our childrens programs to be inviting and helpful to children with special needs.
Other reports
Wardens reports. Bob Champlin asked that we remain aware and alert to needs for accrediting vs. licensing in the school.
Concerns, comments? None others voiced.
