* The main entrance to the building is accessible from the parking area.

* the worship room is to be designed to assist the liturgy. The liturgy consist
basically of provisions for the preaching of the word and the sacraments of bapt
ism and holy communion. So it the plan give emphasis and stressto the pulpit, ta
ble and font.
* The worship room may also be used for other functions such as : confirmation a
nd reception of members, weddings, funerals, choir programs,, drama, education a
nd fellowship.
* The pulpit, table, and font should be portable.
* since the major emphasis is upon preaching, baptism, and communion, architectu
ral features such as windows, reredos or dossal should not distract from the lit

D. Parking Areas
Parking areas should be adjacent to chapel facilities, but not in front of the b
uildings. Provide well-lighted parking areas with adequate spaces for peak atte
ndance events. Locate handicap parking spaces near building entrances. Include
designated spaces for employees and distinguished visitors.
4. Rest Rooms Provide two sets of rest room facilities. Locate a smaller set a
djacent to the counseling area and a larger set near the worship, activities, an
d religious education areas.
Mens rest rooms should include toilets, urinals, sinks, partitions, mirrors, soap
dispensers, toilet paper dispensers, a diaper changing station, a shelf for cap
s and small items, and waste receptacles. Womens rest rooms should include the sa
me acces- sories as the mens, excluding urinals, but including sanitary napkin di
spensers and disposal.
5. Storage Provide a lockable storage room near the classrooms for educational
materials and teaching aids (books, papers, films, videos, VCR cart, tapes, tape
player, arts and crafts materials, seasonal materials, etc). Include shelving
and cabinets for their storage. Direct access to this room from the exterior al
lows convenient delivery of bulk, annual supplies. Large quantities of tables,
chairs, bulk paper supplies, seasonal decorations, and other items require stora
ge adjacent to the multi-purpose room. Use free- standing cabinets and wall-mou
nted shelving to improve storage capacity. Provide double door access to the st
or- age area from the multi-purpose room.
A.General
A quality chapel facility reflects the AMC standard of understated excellence and
creates an environment that is warm and professional. Select chapel facility fi
nish- es for cost-effectiveness in terms of life cycle maintenance. Interior fin

ishes that are durable and easy to maintain are essential to user satisfaction.
In this chapter, Tables 4-A through 4-C provide guidance for finishing and furn
ishing each room of the chapel facility and site chapels/offices. B. Color Conce
pts
Designers should give special attention to color selection. The facility designe
r should provide a timeless color scheme. Use neutral colors on wall finishes a
nd hard surface floor coverings. Incorporate accent colors in upholstery, graph
ics, borders, accessories, and artwork for design scheme consistency. C. Floor C
overings
Select neutral colored carpeting throughout the staff sup- port areas and religi
ous education classrooms. The carpet color for the sanctuary should harmonize w
ith the worship area scheme.
Include high quality, easy to clean vinyl flooring in areas where meals are serv
ed. Provide ceramic tile in rest rooms, where frequent water spills occur. Sele
ct a sealed concrete finish in storage rooms, the janitors room, and mechanical/e
lectrical/communica- tions rooms for durability.
D. Wallcoverings
Finish walls in offices, corridors, and religious education classrooms with text
ured wallcoverings, wainscoting, and chair rail molding.
Use acoustical wallcoverings in areas that require sound proofing. These includ
e all chaplains offices, the blessed sacrament and reconciliation room, the confe
rence area, and the all faiths room. E. Window Coverings
Vertical blinds and miniblinds filter daylight and allow outdoor views. They ar
e appropriate for religious educa- tion classrooms and activities areas. Use li
ned draperies in the chaplains offices to create a home-like environment for visi
tors, and in the conference room to block daylight for visual presentations.
