Problem Description

In STC of Saudi Arabia, The Call Drop Rate increase from 0.2% to 0.45% after upgrade from
eRAN3.0 to eRAN6.0SPC234, the root cause needs to explain.

3.1 The cause of Call Drop

The KPI of the whole network is shown in the following figure; the upgrade was at the
red line.

From the KPI of the TOP N sites, we can see the call drop was due to L.ERAB.AbnormRel.HOFailure.

3 Problem Analysis

The eNB logs recorded that UE didnt support TDD band during handover.

From the trace of the Call Drop UE, we can only see Band3 (FDD) included in the
UECapabilityInformation which indicated that the UE only support Band3 and doesn't
support TDD Band.

And the release was after the RRC_MEAS_RPRT, handover wasnt performed.
In eRan6.0SPC234, a new function was added to check the abnormal UE. Before the
eNB perform a handover, the eNB will check if the UE support the Band of the target
cell. If not, the UE wasnt allowed to handover, and call drop would happen.

The description in 36.331 of 3GPP agreement.

The agreement defined that the UE should include the supported bands information in
the UECapabilityInformation message after reception the UECapabilityEnquiry.

From the trace of the normal UE, we can see Band40 (TDD) was included in
SupportedBandListEUTRA, so handover can perform successfully.

Conclusion: The Call Drop was due to some abnormal UE didnt report the TDD Band
Capability and the eNB in eRan6.0SPC234 enhanced to check the abnormal UE.

Root Cause

Some abnormal UE in STC didnt report TDD Band in UECapabilityInformation, and in

eRan6.0SPC234, a new function was added to check the abnormal UE, before the eNB perform a
handover, the eNB will check if the UE support the Band of the target cell. If not, the UE wasnt
allowed to handover, and call drop happened.

Corrective Action

5.1 Solution
The UE should include the supported TDD Band in UECapabilityInformation and send the
message to the eNB.
Huawei eNB will be compatible with the abnormal UE in DBS3900 LTE TDD
V100R006C00SPC810. And eNB will allow this abnormal UE handover successfully, the
DBS3900 LTE TDD V100R006C00SPC810 will release at 2014.06.15.
