our church and community. It showcases new events that may not be
present in our monthly newsletter. The Weekly News is also posted

Welcome Visitors!
If this is your first time worshiping with us, we welcome
you. As a church we are committed to Love Jesus Christ
and to Share His Love. We offer three services: 8:30 and
11 a.m. are traditional, and 9:45 a.m. is contemporary.
~ Our Welcome Center is located in Oberholtzer Hall, the room next
to the sanctuary. Brochures on all our ministries are available there.
~ Our Holy Grounds Café is a place for light refreshments and coffee
from 8:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. each Sunday in our Fellowship Hall. The
café provides worshipers with an informal opportunity for fellowship.
~ Our Infant and Toddler Nurseries are available every Sunday from
8 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. They are located on the lower level of the church
and are staffed with our full-time, professional attendants and parent
volunteers.
~ Children’s Church for ages four through third grade is offered at the
11 a.m. service and is guided by a parent volunteer. Children will be
dismissed after the Children’s Message. Please pick up your children
in the lower level of the church following worship.

Opportunities for Congregational Care and Service to the Church

Stephen Ministry seeks to be a loving presence of the
caring Christ to churched and the unchurched in our
community. This is a one-to-one ministry by trained and
caring Christians. Stephen Ministers seek to bring Christ's healing love
to people who are lonely, grieving, strangers, new parents, ill, or
experiencing other stresses in life. An in-depth training course is offered
for members who desire to become involved in the life-changing
ministry. For more information about Stephen Ministry, please call

A Blood Pressure Screening will be held Sunday, May 16 from
9:30-10 a.m., 10:45-11:15 a.m., and 12-12:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall.
Get your blood pressure checked, speak with a nurse, and pick up
literature from the American Heart Association. There is much that you
can do to lower your chances of having a heart attack or stroke
Help for Cook Family who recently lost their home in a fire. They will
be moving into their new home in a few weeks and need some helping
hands. Most material needs have been provided for them with the
exception of silverware. If you are able to help them move or fill the
material need, contact Peggy at 421-3280, ext.
VNA/Hospice to Host Award Winning Author, Barbara Karnes, RN,
hospice nurse, educator, and author of the books "The Final Act of
Living" and "Gone From My Sight" will speak at East Stroudsburg
United Methodist Church, May 12 from 7-8:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall.
Barbara will share her 30 years of hospice nursing to inform, comfort
and inspire all who have cared for or will care for their dying loved one.
Admission is free. This special event is open to the entire church and

Opportunities to Support and Enhance Worship
The Altar Flowers are given to the Glory of God and in loving memory
of our mothers, Mary Robinson and Myrtilla Zacharias and in honor of
all mothers at East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church by Bill and
Debbie Zacharias. (2PU)
Many Thanks to the Youth Bell and the Children's Chime Choirs, plus
their parents and helpers, for sharing time and talents in all three
worship services during the 2009-2010 season. Next Sunday, the Youth
Ringers will be musical guests at Fritz Memorial Church in Bethlehem.
Rehearsals will then resume in September for the fall season. We also
thank Lindsay Randall for playing timpani today at 11a.m.
Music Ministry Opportunities during June, July and August during the
the 8:30 and 11 a.m. services are being scheduled. Persons interested in
solo or small ensembles in a variety of styles are invited to see Pauline
Fox or email her at foxes@esumc.net.
"Line-Dance Across the Room!" – Saturday, June 12 is a "country"
social from 5-8:30 p.m. This is a fundraiser toward the September
Organ Concert Series. The evening will feature a "chuck wagon" supper
followed by line-dancing lessons for all ages with Maureen Keller of
Memorytown. Helpers are needed to plan and to assist at the supper and
with baskets for silent auction. Please contact Pauline Fox at 223-9889

Prayer and Praise
If you have a prayer request, please list it either on the prayer sheet in the rear
of the sanctuary or on the back of the friendship pad. Please be sure to include
your name on the request. This aids us in updating our weekly prayer requests.
Confidentiality is very important. We, as a church family, want to honor each
person's right to privacy. Please be mindful of this as you write your requests.

Quilts for Pocono Area Transitional Housing - The Davis Sunday
school class is looking for materials to make this quilts for these
families in transition. They are asking for donations of used (good
condition) full size sheets, quilts, blankets or any kind of material. You
can call Lois Taylor at 402-4882 or bring these items to the Bridal
Lounge any Sunday from 9:45-10:45 a.m.
Leisure Activities
Softball - Team ESUMC will play St. John Catholic Church Friday,
May 14 at the Pinebrook field on Rt. 191 & Hallett Road in
Stroudsburg. Come cheer them on!
Adult Co-ed Recreational Basketball meets every Monday at 8 p.m.

Opportunities That Enhance the Fellowship of the Body of Christ
Saturday Night Fellowship, May 15 from 6-7:30 p.m. This month the
theme is Pizza & Pasta Party. Bring a friend for fellowship and play Wii
games from 6 -6:30 p.m. Following the meal, reflections will be shared
from those attending the Spiritual Life Retreat.
Older Kids, our 55+ group, meets Monday, May 10 at 11:30 a.m. for
a Shoe box Lunch in Fellowship Hall and trip to Great Wolf Lodge.
Bring a shoe box or brown bag lunch to exchange with another person.
Following lunch they will proceed to Great Wolf Lodge, via church vans
and private cars, for a tour and chocolate making demonstration
returning approx. 2:30 p.m.
Celebrating Womenhood Banquet is Monday, May 17 at 6 p.m. in
Fellowship Hall. Sponsored by United Methodist Women, this is an
annual tradition in our church for women of all ages. Dinner is followed

DISTRICT CONFERENCE NEWS
As your lay delegate (Pat Braun), I will be attending the Eastern
Pennsylvania Annual Conference is May 20, 21 and 22 in Lancaster. I
want to bring two resolutions to your attention. One pertains to
gambling as a moral issue and urges repeal of Pennsylvania's gambling
laws and abstention from gambling. This resolution describes the
negative aspects of gambling and why we as Christians should oppose
gambling. The second is an amendment of the policy: Safe Sanctuaries,
Reducing the Risk of Abuse in the Church. This amendment
recommends that all new applicants or volunteers that work with
children, youth or vulnerable adults undergo a nationwide criminal
background check, and that churches have the right to conduct
additional checks. I will let you know the status of these after the
conference.
Additionally, Pastors Candy LaBar and Bob Amundsen will be
commissioned and Pastor Bob Hatchman will be ordained on May 22.
Please pray for all clergy and lay members during the conference.

Children's Ministry - Birth to 6th Grade
Preschool Staff Positions - If anyone in our congregation is interested
in applying for a staff position in our new preschool, applications and

Big News for Little People! We are very excited to announce a new
addition to Our Children's Ministry Program! Starting this September
2010, our church will be opening "Foundations" a BRAND-NEW
Christian Preschool for children ages 3-5. Enrollment has begun and
will remain open until class spaces are full. Contact Sue Randall for

Summer Theater Outing is Friday, June 18 at DeSales University. Join
us as we sit on the stage and watch Robin Hood. Church vans will leave
the parking-lot at 8:30 a.m. for the 10 a.m. show. Tickets are $9 each.

Opportunities That Deepen Discipleship Through Learning
Bible Study - Who is God? Led by Tim & Jill Malefyt, this
five-session course by John Piper helps us to focus on who God is and
what that means for our lives. The course will be held on Sundays at
11:00 a.m., starting today.
So Long, Insecurity books by Beth Moore are now available in the

The Davis Class will hold their monthly meeting at the home of Lois

Youth Ministry - 7th - 12th Grades

Youth Sunday School Classes for all youth in 7th - 12th grades meet
weekly at 11 a.m. in the Youth Room.
Sunday Night Youth Program will meet from 7-8:30 p.m. The evening
will consist of fellowship, worship and message and games.
Thursday Night Bible Studies (small groups) meet weekly. Youth meet
in the Youth Room from 7-7:20 p.m. for fellowship and then break into
small groups for Bible study from 7:30– 8:30 p.m.
Jr. High Boys Bible Study will now be held on Wednesday nights,
following JAM. There will be dinner at 5:15 p.m. and Bible study from
5:45 – 6:45 p.m.
J.A.M (7th and 8th grade outreach), after-school program, meets
every Wednesday, from 2:45-5 p.m. at the church. Church van
transportation from Stroudsburg and JTL schools is available.
Permission forms are in the Youth Room or at the Information Center
in Fellowship Hall. Friends are invited!
Mission Trip Informational Meeting is next Sunday, May 16 from
12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Youth Room for students attending the Sr. High
Mission trip to Mississippi and their parents.
2010 Summer Mission Trips
Sr. High Mississippi Trip for students completing 8th -12th grades is
Friday, July 23 – Sunday, August 1. Jr. High Pittsburgh Project
Trip is Monday July 5 – Friday July 9 for all students going into 7th
or 8th grade. A $70 non-refundable deposit is needed to reserve your
spot. For a list of payments and meeting dates, please see Scott
Kuhnle or pick up a copy in the youth room.
Senior (Class of 2010) Dinner: This annual event will be held
Friday, May 14 at 8 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. All youth are invited to
help us honor our graduating seniors.
