This document lists the DeltaV workstations that will supported for v11 and v12.3 and how to obtain Windows 7
Professional and Server 2008 Standard O/S software and Windows licenses to upgrade existing workstations

Computers Supported for Windows 7 and Server 2008 to Upgrade to DeltaV


v11.3 and v11.3.1
Note- all computers released subsequent to the models listed below are also supported on DeltaV v11.3.1.
The following table lists the VE numbers of Dell computers that are supported by Emerson for upgrading to
Windows 7 or Server 2008 that can be used as part of an upgrade to DeltaV v11.3 or v11.3.1.
DeltaV v11.3 and v11.3.1 is only supported on Windows 7 Professional 32 bit and Server 2008 Standard 32 bit.
DeltaV checks the version of the O/S during the install process and is prevented from installing on unsupported
operating systems.

NOTE: Except in EMEA all computers shipped prior to approximately December 15, 2009 will be required to
purchase a Windows 7 license from Emerson as part of the upgrade. In EMEA the ship date for computers with
Windows 7 licenses was in approximately April 1, 2010. Check Dell Service tag information to verify which
operating system shipped with the computer. [www/dell.com tech support system configuration enter
service tag # and view the original system configuration tab].
Alternatively you can also check the Certificate of Authentication (COA) on the computer to see what O/S is
licensed on the computer.
REGARDLESS OF SHIP DATE: If your computers were shipped with a Vista license then you will need to
purchase a Windows 7 license to install the Windows 7 Operating system. The actual date when the Windows 7
licenses began shipping may have varied by a few days depending on when the order was processed. Some
th
orders shipped a day or 2 after December 15 may still contain Vista licenses. You must check the Dell site to
th
determine if you have a Windows 7 license if your computers were processed around December 15 . If the
computer shows a Vista license you will be required to purchase a Windows 7 license to install Windows 7.
Server 2008 Computers

These computers are not supported for upgrades to v11.3 or v11.3.1.


For systems currently running v11.3 on the PE 2800/2850 we will provide
support via the GSC on a best effort basis. No support is available
for 11.3 or v11.3.1 upgrades using the PE2800/2850 computers.

Not licensed for Server 2008. Requires purchase of a Server 2008


upgrade license. For the PE2900III/PE2950III it may be necessary to
view Dell service tag information or check the Certificate of Authentication
(COA) on the computer to see what O/S is licensed on the computer.

2900-III/2950-III

Server is licensed for Server 2008. No upgrade license required. A Server


2008 Image DVD was shipped with these computers and should be used
to upgrade to Server 2008.

2008 Image DVD was shipped with these computers and should be used
to upgrade to Server 2008.

All servers purchased prior to September 2008 will be required to purchase a Server 2008 license from Emerson
as part of the upgrade. Check Dell Service tag information on Dell website to verify which operating system was
shipped on the server. [www/dell.com tech support system configuration enter service tag # and view the
original system configuration tab]. Regardless of ship date if the server shipped with a Server 2003 license then
a Server 2008 license is required.

Installing the new Microsoft Operating Systems


Emerson provides operating system images to allow for quick and correct installation of the new Windows 7 or
Server 2008 operating systems on DeltaV computers. An image DVD for all of the supported computers and
servers in the table above will be distributed as part of the SE9201 upgrade license package. You will have to
purchase this package to upgrade the computers.
If you have a computer listed in the table above that was shipped with a Windows 7 or Server 2008 license you do
not have to purchase another license. Images are available (at a nominal charge) to order from our pricebook see
the ordering information below for details. Microsoft licensing restrictions do not allow us to ship these images for
systems where licenses are purchased locally and they will not properly install using these licenses.

Obtaining Microsoft Operating System licenses for installed computers


If you wish to upgrade an existing system to v11.3 orv11.3.1 and the system does not currently have computers
licensed for Windows 7 and Server 2008 you must purchase new O/S licenses for every computer to be
upgraded. To be upgraded the computers must be listed on the table above.
For computers in the above table that require an O/S upgrade to Windows 7 or Server 2008 the SE9201 Upgrade
kits listed in the table below must be ordered. Please note that all v11.3.1 upgrades are required to use the
upgrade kits listed below to upgrade the O/S. DeltaV may not be able provide support for O/S upgrades
performed using Windows 7 or Server 2008 upgrade licenses obtained from other sources
You must purchase an upgrade kit for every computer that will be upgraded.

These kits include a Dell BIOS upgrade that will allow the O/S to be installed on the computer without the need for
activation by Microsoft. No internet connection to Microsoft is required to install and activate these updates.
See DeltaV KBA AK-1000-0144 for more information on installing these upgrade kits. (Access to KBAs requires
secure login to the DeltaV Foundation Support database)
If the computer you wish to upgrade does not have an SE9201 upgrade kit available we do not support upgrading
the computer for use with DeltaV v11.3.1.

Obtaining Operating System Images for computers that are currently


licensed for Windows 7 or Server 2008
Images to install Windows 7 or Server 2008 on existing computers that shipped from Dell with a Windows 7 or
Server 2008 license but downgraded to XP or Server 2003 can be ordered from Emerson using the model
numbers listed below.
These images do not contain licenses for Windows 7 or Server 2008 and cannot be used to upgrade
existing XP or Server 2003 operating systems to Windows 7 or Server 2008.
There is a nominal charge for these images. It is only necessary to order one image per type of computer. You do
not have to order an image for every computer. Images may be copied for backup purposes and provided to
customers.
It is no longer necessary to provide Dell computer asset tag information to order these images.

Hardware Upgrades Required for DeltaV v11 or v12 Installation


We do not generally require hardware updates as a function of a DeltaV upgrade. We do, however, recommend
that this is a good time to replace harddrives and potentially the power supply [for fan replacement] depending on
the environment in which the computer is running.
There is one required hardware upgrade for a v11.3/v11.3.1 DeltaV upgrade. At this time we are aware of only
one computer hardware upgrade that will be required for some computers that may be used as a
ProfessionalPlus in v11.3 or later. The computers listed below will require 4 GB of memory to support a
ProfessionalPlus workstation in v11.3 or later. (Do not upgrade the memory in a T3500 computer beyond 3 GB as
it will negatively impact performance).
If you are planning upgrades where the ProfessionalPlus in on one of these computers you should plan to install
sufficient additional memory. This memory should be purchased directly from Dell. To determine the correct
memory upgrade for your specific computer please go to the Dell Website and use the serial tag information from
the installed computer to obtain this memory.
