A. Background
Driven by the desire to realize “the intellect professional
ulama” and “the ulama professional intellect'", The State
Islamic University (UIN) Malang, since 1997, make serious
efforts to combine the mastery of modern science with the
religious sciences. University that was not yet one year old
and his physical building is still being arranged, according to
his leaders enforced on the principle of non-sectarianism. No
distinction between ethnic, religious school and educational
background.
B. Goal
The Special Programs of Learning Arabic (PKPBA) UIN Maulana
Malik Ibrahim Malang aims to develop students' ability in
Arabic which was subsequently used as a tool for Islamic
studies. Through intensive language learning, creative,
exciting and bright, students are expected to conduct the
study of Arabic literature independently, so the expectation
that students are able to develop further scholarship can be
realized.
C. Operational Forms
To develop the Arabic language in this UIN Maulana Malik
Ibrahim Malang, there should be a model formulation of
intensive Arabic language development, creative, exciting and
bright. As for other forms of operation are as follows:
A. Working Mechanism
The Special Programs of Learning Arabic (PKPBA) of UIN
Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang is an institution given the
responsibility to handle Arabic language classes are managed
by a special program. This institution has a working
mechanism that is integrated by dividing work tasks (job
description) that in accordance the existing units with a
professional working mechanism and remain mutually
supportive of one another.
B. Organizational Structure
To develop and administrative discipline the Special Programs
of Learning Arabic, then prepared the following organizational
structure:
a. Chairman and Secretary
b. Academic Section
c. Administration and welfare
d. Research and Development (Bahs wa Al tathwir)
e. Student Communication Forum (Qism thulabiyah)
f. The Guardian Class (Aulia al Fushul)
a) Weights SKS
The Arabic language curricular materials have 12 credits
weighs, that is 6 credits in the first semester, and 6
credits in the second semester, (essentially the 30
credits, per semester), starting Monday - Friday with a
duration of 5 hours (three times in a day):
b) General Purpose
a. To equip the students with the skill of communicate
orally and in Arabic writing.
b. To provide thr students with the reading skill,
understand and translate Arabic books for Islamic
studies.
a) Approach
The approach used is all in one system (al wihdah
nazhariyah), that is an approach which saw language as
a unified whole and complement each other.
b) Method
The method used is the method eklektif (intiqaiyah),
that’s namely by choosing or combining matching
methods while learning in a particular matter, with the
characteristics are:
1. Giving priority to the ability of active expression.
2. Avoiding the use of lingua franca.
3. Using a direct method in the teaching of words and
sentences.
The lessons of grammar (nahwu and sharf) are taught
with and functional methods (al Nahwu / al Sharf al
Wazhifiy)

The learning model is fun, exciting, and bright.

c) Evaluation System
Evaluation of teaching and learning Arabic at the PKPBA
was held in the form of written and oral tests. Form of
tests undertaken include:
1. Placement Test
2. Test Step (4 times, every 2 ½ months)
3. Integrated Test (standard Arabic language skills,
twice)
4. Memorizing Jus 'Amma (Stage I: until the sura of ad
dhuha, Stage II: until the sura of al a’la, Stage III:
until the sura of al Insyiqaq, Stage IV: up to the
sura of an naba')
a) Values
Final score drawn from the results of the test phase,
considering the 4 aspects: the depth of spiritual, moral
excellence, breadth of knowledge, professional maturity
(spiritual, cognitive, affective, and psiomotorik).
A. Lecturer
The total of PKPBA lectureres in the academic year 2009-2010
is 82 people. They have a varied educational background that
supports the development of the Arabic accompanied with high
spirit. Formally, they are alumni of several universities abroad
and in countries such as:

• Malik Saud University, Saudi Arabia
• Syria
• Morocco
• Malaysia
• India
• Pakistan and others, with the academic qualifications of
doctors, masters and bachelor's degrees

For students who have graduated in The Special Programs of
Learning Arabic in one year (two semesters) are given a
certificate of graduation in a way register themselves to the
secretariatof PKPBA based on specified stipulations.
