General Internship Agreement

This Agreement is between ___________________________ (the Host Training Establishment


HTE) and New Era University-College of Law(NEU-LAW), regarding the internship
(Internship) for the following NEU-LAW student: _______________________________
(Student) who is enrolled in the Summer Internship Program at NEU-LAW (Program).
The parties agree as follows:
1. Purpose: The Program includes an opportunity for the Student to acquire experience
in a professional setting prior to graduating from NEU-LAW.
The HTE has suitable
experiences, lawyer supervisor/s, and facilities available for the educational experience of
the Student. It is mutually beneficial to NEU-LAW and the HTE to have the Student
participate as intern/practicum student at the HTE. Therefore, the purpose of this
Agreement is to outline the cooperative arrangements, duties and responsibilities for the
Internship.
2. Internship Plan: In conjunction with this Agreement, NEU-LAW, the Student, and the
HTE will develop an Internship Plan in the form of or substantially in the form of the
sample included as Attachment A to this Agreement, setting forth the specifics of the
Internship, including details such as duration of the Internship, Student responsibilities,
and HTE responsibilities.
3.
Coordination and Communication:
NEU-LAW and HTE will coordinate and
cooperate regarding the Students Internship. Each party will designate a liaison
(Liaison) for such communications. The Liaisons are the following persons:

Either party may change the designated Liaison or his or her contact information by notice
in writing.
4. Orientation and Supervision: The HTE will orient the Student to the policies, rules
and schedules of the HTE. The HTE will assign a direct lawyer supervisor who will be onGeneral Internship Agreement

HTE or readily available by phone or other electronic means for consultation, supervision
and direction for the Student.

5. Professionalism: The HTE will provide the Student with adequate workspace and
resources (e.g., office supplies, access to computer) needed to conduct Internship
activities. HTE will treat Student as a professional.
6. Student Status: While engaged in the Internship, the Student shall retain the
status of a student working towards the fulfillment of a law degree requirement. The
Student is not an employee or agent of NEU-LAW. The Student shall not displace
regular employees of the HTE. Unless negotiated between the Student and HTE, the
Student is not entitled to any monetary or other remuneration for services performed
at the HTE.
7. Evaluation: NEU-LAW will provide the HTE with evaluation materials. The HTE will
provide periodic written evaluation of the Student using these materials.
In
cooperation with the HTE, NEU-LAW will conduct the final evaluation of the Students
completion of the Internship and assign a grade to the Student as applicable.
8. Removal of Student: The HTE may remove the Student from placement for
violating HTE rules and regulations or for such actions as the HTE views as detrimental
to its operations. The HTE will consult with NEU-LAW before final action is taken.
9. Inspection: HTE will permit, on reasonable notice and request, the inspection of
HTE facilities by agencies charged with responsibility for accreditation of NEU-LAW.
10. Compliance with Laws, Nondiscrimination: Each party will each comply with
all laws applicable to this Agreement including the Labor Code, as amended. Each
party certifies that it will not discriminate in the performance of this Agreement on the
basis of any legally protected characteristic, including but not necessarily limited to
regional origin, gender, sexual orientation (to include gender identity), religion, marital
status, or the presence of any sensory, or physical disability.
11. General Provisions: This Agreement and any Internship Plan to be attached
hereto constitute the entire agreement between the parties. The parties may modify
this Agreement by a subsequent written Agreement executed by the parties.
13. Authorized Signatures: The parties executing this Agreement below hereby
certify they have the authority to sign this Agreement on behalf of their respective
parties and that the parties agree to the terms and conditions of this Agreement as
shown by the signatures below.

Specify weekly work schedule on-HTE. (e.g. Mon: 2-5, Wed: 11-3). As a general rule,
student must work for two hundred (240) hours for two (2) months to receive four (4)
academic units.

not be clerical in nature.

VI.

Lawyer Supervisor Responsibilities


A. Training - Plan on a significant time commitment initially. Structure an orientation to
both the organization and specific role to be assumed. Attendance in different stages
of an on-going court or quasi-judicial hearings is desirable, if possible.
B. Feedback - Regular feedback sessions should be formally arranged to facilitate
consistent supervision, guidance, and constructive criticism on a weekly basis. These
times should be specified and adhered to. Specify how feedback will be given on an
on-going basis.
C. Final Evaluation - A final written evaluation from the supervisor of the students
performance is required. Due date is August 15, 2016.

VII. Credit
