7.1.2.

Methodology
The data for river transportation in Palembangwere obtained from state port operator PT.Pelindo
II, state river transport operator PT. ASDP, and from the study of Musi River transportation by
PT. Prima Karya Sejahtera. Table 7.1. shows the information of types of boats operating on the
Musi River.

Briefly, Musi river transportation in Palembang city is divided into four categories:
1. River crossing
For this kind of transportation, the vehicle used is usually a small boat (Ketek) with a maximum
capacity of 12 passenger. This kind of boat is used to get people across from SeberangUlu to
Seberangilir or vice versa and only for short range traveling.

2. Transporting people from or to Palembang


For this kind of transportation, the vehicle used are speed boats. Table 7.3 shows the data of this
kind river transportation.

3. For transporting people from Palembang to Muntok or vice versa.

For traveling from Palembang to Bangka or vice versa, people use ferries operated by PT ASDP.
These ferries berth in 35 Ilir Port. Table 8.4 shows the activity of this ship in Palembang.

4. For transporting commodities from/to Palembang


The Musi River also plays an important role in transporting commodities from and to
Palembang. The type of boats used is of around 30-60 ton capacity and are locally known as
Jukung. Table 7.5 describes the operasion of these boat in Musi River.

5. For Loading/Unloading at Boom Baru Port


Boom Baru port is the main port in Palembang city operated by PT Pelindo II. There are four
kinds of boats berthing at Boom Baru Port: tanker, vessel dry bulk, vessel container, and tug
boat. Table 7.6shows the activity at Boom Baru Port.

6. For Loading/Unloading at Pusri Port


PT. Pusri lies near to Musi River. For transportation of raw material, equipment, and product, PT.
Pusri has one dedicated port to support its operational activity. There are four kinds of boats at
Pusri Port: tanker, vessel dry bulk, LCT, and tug boat. Table 7.7 shows the activity at PT. Pusri
Port.

7. For Loading/Unloading coal at Kertapati (PT.BukitAsam)


PT. BukitAsam is coal mining company, which has a stockpile in Kertapati, near to the Musi
river. Coal is transported by train from its mining area (Tanjung Enim) to this stockpile and then
loaded into tug boats the port.

8. For Loading/Unloading Oil and Gas at PT. Pertamina Port


PT. Pertaminais Oil and Gas mining company, which has a port in Plaju, near to the Musi river.
This port has function to transport Oil and Gas from / to PT. Pertamina RU III. Since the material
transported are Oil and Gas, type of ships berthed at PT. Pertamina Port is Tanker.
