JEE Main 2015 was conducted on 4th April 2015 in offline mode
in centres within India and abroad. A total of 11.2 lakh students
would have appeared for this important national exam. The
exam was conducted from 9.30 to 12.30 hrs.
There were 4 versions for JEE MAIN 2015 - A, B, C and D. The
order of subjects in each version was different; likewise the
options for each question were shuffled too in different
versions; there were NO Assertion-Reasoning type questions in
the paper similar to last year. But the total marks and the
number of questions in ALL versions were the same.

Physics Part
The overall difficulty level of the Physics part is slightly on the
higher side. Some questions were time consuming; some areas
like wave optics, properties of liquids etc. were totally not
represented in the paper. But Thermodynamics has suddenly
become an area of importance in this year's JEE Main paper.
Percentage of difficult questions has gone down compared to
JEE Main 2014, but due to the decrease in easy questions and
the increase in medium level questions, the Physics part of the
paper was rated 'difficult' by students.
The overall difficulty level of the Physics part is represented in
the graph below and it is very clear that the number of 'easy'

questions has gone down.

The topic wise distribution of the questions is shown below:

Chemistry Part
Majority of the questions in the Chemistry part of the JEE Main
2015 are in the range of easy to moderate. The overall difficulty
level in this year is less compared to last year. Usually
application level questions are expected from Physical and
Organic chemistry areas, but this year questions from these two
areas were quite straight in nature. But one question from
Inorganic Chemistry was based on practical part and it would
have been difficult to answer. More over, this year's
contribution from Inorganic Chemistry is more compared to
previous years.
As given below about 53% of the paper was considered 'Easy'
and only about 7% of the paper was 'difficult' and hence this
was a student friendly paper.

The topic wise analysis of the JEE Main 2015 paper for
Chemistry is shown below.

Mathematics Part
Mathematics part of JEE Main 2015 was challenging as far as a
student is concerned. Even a well prepared student might not
identify all 'easy' questions and if he/ she avoid the traps set in
between they will be able to live through. The paper has only
about 27% of marks from easy category questions and has
over 50% of the paper set in the medium difficulty level. Few
questions that posed difficulty are genuinely concept wise
difficult and tricky in nature.
There was only one question each from Statistics and
Mathematical Reasoning and two direct questions from
trigonometry.

Algebra, Coordinate Geometry and Differential Calculus (as

expected) had major shares. Topic wise analysis is given below.

Detailed Analysis of JEE 2014 Advanced

Mathematics

Paper-wise analysis:
This year, in JEE, in paper-I there was no negative marking however it had 10 questions which had more
than one correct answer thus making it tough and most confusing questions for the students and 10
questions were integer type.
In paper-II all questions had one third negative marking. 10 questions had single option correct type, 6
questions CMP (comprehension based questions in form of passage) based and 4 questions were of
match the column type.
Syllabus-wise analysis:
This year the Mathematics JEE Advanced paper was overall balanced as per the syllabus. 60% of the
questions (25 Q out of 40 Q in both paper) were from XII class syllabus and 40% questions were from XI
class syllabus. All the chapters were covered proportionately. (In 2013 16 Q out of 40 Q are only from 3
chapters vector& 3D, probability, complex number) Student are advised to prepare the complete
syllabus. DO NOT LEAVE ANY CHAPTER.
Level-wise analysis:
This year out of 40 Q, 12 Q were easy (6 in paper-I, 6 in paper-II) , 14 Q were average (9 in paper-I, 5 in
paper-II) and 14 were tough ( 5 in paper- I, 9 in paper -II) as per IIT JEE standards. In JEE, each year one or
two Q in Maths are posed in which students have to check their final answer whether some condition is
being met for a particular answer or a particular value. This year also two Q were present, one is of limit
& other is of 3-D (In paper-I) in which 1 value eliminates itself as it is does not meet mentioned conditions.
Students have to take care for such questions before making the final answer.
Key points for cracking the JEE Exam:
Smart work with hard work
Hard work is must for any student to clear JEE exam, but if this hard work also includes smart work at the
time of exam then it improve the chance of selection in IIT-JEE with good rank.

10
Cut off for JEE Advanced 2014 was 152 out of 360 (officially declared by IIT), which is relatively high as
compared to last years. Student have to score approximately 45% marks in each subject for the selection,
even by scoring 75% marks student can have rank in top 200.(Kushal Sogani from Jaipur secured AIR 187
at marks 259/360). Always attempt those questions where in which you are 100% sure, and only then go
for remaining questions. This year also 12 Q (6 in each paper -I and paper-II) were easy as per the IIT
standard. First target these questions. Another questions 14 questions were of average difficulty level,
then go for those questions.
By solving these easy and average questions, a student can complete about 60-70% of the paper. Then
attempt remaining questions if you have time. Selection of question is very important in this process.
Approaching the paper smartly is as important as your knowledge.
