I would assume that not everyone is happy with MIUI 6 at its current version.

A lot needs to be fixed and

improved. So, I would hazard a guess that a lot of you want to revert back to MIUI 5 for the moment right?
There are actually four (4) methods to flash / restore / fix / upgrade a Xiaomi phone. All these method works
for both Mi3 and RedMi 1s. The difference would be in ROM version so make sure you download the right ROM
for your phone model. Here are the methods:
1.
2.
3.
4.

Updater App
Recovery Mode
Fastboot Mode
ADT / ADB

In this tutorial however, Ill be focusing on the safest, fastest, cleanest and hassle free method which is the
FASTBOOT METHOD.
Why safest? Because everything is done automatically. Why fastest? Because you dont get stuck at 98% when
wiping cache or data partition unlike in MIUI recovery mode. And why the cleanest? Because its capable of
formatting system, data and user partitions in one go.
This method should be used when DOWNGRADING or when you want to restoring your phone to its original
state (read: factory default)
You can also just flash parts of the system if you want, like restoring the MIUI recovery after you found out that
your CWMs broke or just dont need a custom recovery.
Itching to try fastboot now? Lets begin.
Requirements:
1. A PC running Windows 7 or higher
2. MiFlash tool:

3. Fastboot ROM
a. For Mi3 here: http://en.miui.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=14641&highlight=fastboot
b. For Redmi 1s here:

4. USB Data Cable
After you have downloaded the necessary files, follow these steps:
1. Create a folder on your desktop. Name it whatever you want (in my case, I named it FixMi and would
be referring to it as such)
2. Run MiPhone2.11.6.exe and let it install MiFlash
3. Double click on the MiFlash shortcut created on your desktop or search for it on the Windows Start
Menu

4. This is how MiFlash looks like:

5. Now Extract the Fastboot ROM youve just downloaded inside the FixMi folder
6. You should see something like this:

7. Click on the the address bar and copy the address (Ctrl + C)

8. Now paste the address you just copied unto the address bar in MiFlash:

9. Click on the arrow besides the word Browse and select Advance
10. You should see something like this:

11. Click on the Browse button on the FastBoot Script line and navigate to the folder FixMi on your
desktop. As you can see there are batch files scripts there: (Dont mind the files with an .sh extension.
Those are intended for LINUX boxes.)
a. The default is flash_all_except_storage.bat. What this does is it wipes the system and user
data but leaves the storage intact. (meaning youll still be keeping your files, music and videos
on your phone)
b. Flash_all.bat This wipes everything. System, User data and Storage. Use this if you want your
phone to be like the day you got it. This is also HIGHLY RECOMMENDED when you
DOWNGRADE from MIUI 6 to MIUI 5
c. Flash_all_except_data_storage this wipes/flashes only the system partition. It does not
affect user data or files in storage. Use this when you want to update your MIUI to the latest
version
12. I will assume that you want your storage to be intact so click on flash_all_except_storage.bat
13. Once youre back to MiFlash, turn-off your phone and put it into FASTBOOT mode by pressing VOLUME
DOWN + Power Button at the same time. Once in fastboot mode, connect your phone to your PC.
14. Let the PC install the necessary drivers.
15. On MiFlash, click on Refresh. It should now see your device.
16. Once device is detected, click on FLASH button. Flashing should now start. It should take around 5
10 minutes.
17. If everything went well, your phone should now boot normally. You can now disconnect it from the PC.
18. Congratulations and well done!

For some disclaimers: I have tested this method countless times and have never had any problems. I will not be
responsible for any damage you might get from doing this method. You do this at your own risk.
