Dream three

The war.

When I started to try to sleep I dreaded what I

would see next. But the dream came anyway. The
entity was as fearsome as the third ghost from
Dickens’s Christmas Carol, and since the outline of
things to come was given in the first dream, I knew
that this dream would be about the war.

Again I started to live, seeing through the same

person’s eyes, like in the second dream. But this
time I was not limited to watching it on TV or the
internet. I felt the fear and terror of impending
doom. I had joined in the hysteria, I started to
stockpile food and supplies, I made sure I had
candles, batteries, lamp oil, gasoline, and water
available. There was a storm coming and I didn’t
know what would happen.

The stores were cleaned out. Many people fled

from the cities to the beach. The financial markets,
and banks were crashing and nothing had
happened, yet. The thought of nuclear war was so
scary that people actually died of fright.

The trigger was the explosion of a reactor in Iran.

The meltdown and radiation killed thousands. As
mentioned in “dream one”, Israel and the US were
blamed. The secret treaties with Iran’s neighbors
were revealed and everybody prepared for the
worst Middle Eastern war ever. The Iranian
alliance started massing within each border and
tried to involve the states around Israel, but most

refused; Syria did join in with them and would

allow the armies to cross their territory. The
African states of Libya and Sudan shipped their
armies to Syria and Iraq. The invasion army
massed in Syria.
NATO, China and other Arab states protested at
the UN and supported Israel. They threatened
nuclear holocaust if they were damaged by nuclear
explosions. They wanted to stop the use of the
Iranian atom bombs. But this only enraged the
dictator. The Iranian alliance had the largest army
assembled since Would War Two, waiting D Day.

Then another disaster, the city of Jerusalem was

bombed; whether by stealth bomber, missile
attack, sabotage, or a terrorist plot, nobody knew
what happened, there was no warning. The
damage was minimal but the Dome of the Rock
was destroyed on the temple mount. There was
other damage in the surrounding neighborhoods.
The trigger happy Israelis prepared for the worst.
They had many nuclear weapons, missiles, and
bombers and they were made ready. The west did
not know how many bombs Israel had and never
asked. The destruction of the holy site started the
actual invasion. The Moslem armies crossed into
Israel and the air forces filled the sky with bombs.
When the armies were in the mountains of Israel
and on the plains around the Sea of Galilee,the
first atom bombs started going off on the invading
armies. The survivors of the blast panicked and
started killing each other. Then the war escalated,
Iran fired ICBMs at the USA but these were shot
down by the missile defense system. The US
response decimated Iran and the countries that
were part of the Iranian alliance. A second strike

of the Iranian missiles was launched, The US

stopped most, but some got through and one hit
New York City. The cities in Lebanon were
decimated also. Some missiles also struck Russia
and they launched against the Alliance.
The Iranian alliance was finished. Over 80% or the
alliance populations were killed. The army that
attacked Israel was also killed by earthquakes and
hail storms that started with the atomic blasts.
Radiation killed millions in the area.
The fallout spread across India, Southeast Asia,
China, Japan, Australia and east across the
Pacific. The result was wars everywhere, riots,
violence, fear, and mass migrations of scared
people to places that seemed safe. The crops were
contaminated, food animals died, starvation, and
plagues followed worldwide. About one third of the
world’s population died or just vanished.

Here in the US people headed for the hills. The

cities were left to looters, old fallout shelters were
mobbed, and survivalists shot trespassers. The
rich and powerful moved to old Cold War bunkers
along with the government and military leaders.
Law and order broke down everywhere. It was the
end of the world as shown by old Sci-Fi movies.

In the midst of all this fear something strange had

happened. Before the bombs went off millions of
ordinary people vanished. Cars went out of control,
pilots and passengers vanished while in flight.
Many leaders were gone. Loved ones vanished
everywhere. But with the war, people were too
scared to realize what was going on.

The fallout and the dust in the atmosphere caused

almost many deaths in the Americas as it did in

Asia. The climate changed, food was scarce and
contaminated, and water was contaminated. If the
fallout didn’t kill you sickness and starvation was
next.

The person I was living as stayed in his house and

hunkered down. Somehow the clouds of fallout
were diverted north and passed over him and his
beach. But soon the supplies would be gone and
there was no way to get more. Weeks passed and
the power was restored, most of our power was
from hydro electric dams so the outages were
easy to fix. Since this area was spared the brunt of
the fallout, life started to reappear. Stored food
was on sale, but at exorbitant prices. The social
Security transfers were made and local banks
started to recover. It was like the Wild West.
People started to share and help each other.

Now the questions started; what happened to all

these people that vanished? Where were they
hiding? Were they killed and the bodies buried
during the panic? Where were the loved ones that
were there one second and gone the next? Rumors
were rampant; alien abduction, alien rescue
mission to save humanity before it destroyed
itself, new secret weapons, and the Christian
religion’s rapture prophecy were all being
discussed. Scientists were looking into it.
Legal questions arose about what was left behind.
Who now owned the houses, cars, money, and life
insurance? Since there were no bodies, except for
war victims, were these people legally dead? If
they were in hiding or were abducted what about
when they returned?

The world had sustained a mortal blow, but

survived, for now. Now everybody wondered what
was next. Civilization restarted and the repairs
started. The dead were buried and things tried to
get back to normal.

I woke up; these nightmares were getting to me.

This time I turned over and went back to sleep.
The writing could wait till morning. The rest of the
night was peaceful.
