Creating planets, worlds, systems.

Species Base Suggestions

This is an edited list from the net page The Universe According to You, a page for people who are staking out pieces of a
made up universe and creating everything from scratch.
Remember, you need not start out at the "beginning" and "work your way up". Your people can have Newtons and
Einsteins to make leaps and jumps or travel down unknown roads of knowledge.
Race/Species

One People - a pre-Babylon state. Useful for One Mind, a kind of telepathy. Everyone has the same genetic code,
very little differences from one individual to another.
One Species, Many Races - "our" kind of world. Differences in hair color, eye color, skin color, size, and
metabolism are prevalent. Genetic code is similar, but random mutations are possible. World Peace? What's
that?
Bipolar Species - two kinds of races inhabit the world. Genocide, anyone? Or maybe symbotes?
Crazy Quilt - this world had life on it, all right. Too much! Is it a Hivelike race? Or dog-eat-cat-eat-mouse?
Frankenstein - Darwin's nightmare. Maybe "Aliens" were made this way.
Nonstandard Environment - maybe they breathe water or methane. Maybe 100 degrees F is a chilly day for them.
Make reasons why.
Cuckoo's Egg - it had a civilization, but then aliens came and conquered them --- And found out the babes were
great... Ten thousand years later, are the two species really differnent?
Galactic - By The Way, We Rule Everyone Else In The Universe.
Fallen - these people once ruled the stars. Until ______ happened. Are they crawling back from anarchy to rule
again?
Leftovers - these weren't the Galatic Overlords, they were the Overlords' _pets_. Now they have sentience. Will
they follow in your masters' footsteps? Where did they leave the leash?
Von Neumann - machines that make machines. Life is a machine that can reproduce itself, right? Now to
program it, just make software for the 'wetware'...
Robotic - someone else made the machines, and they became self-aware. They threw out the masters (or they
disappeared), and now the Autobots and Deceptic...er, good robots and evil robots...
Mentalic - why excerise and run around when your metal powers will bring food to you? Of course, after a few
million years of this, you don't look very pretty, but when you can just control slaves with your mind, you don't
care.
Spacefaring - somehow these aliens got into space. Now they _live_ in space. Literally. They talk in radio waves
and feel the coldness of vacumm on their skin. Where's a star to warm up?
Science, Standard (you want to be like Earth)

Me Invent Wheel! What Is Fire?

Pre-Industrial - Anywhere from the Romans to 1600 A.D. on Earth.
Steam Age - making Nature do the musclework.
Industrial Age - learning to automamonize labor, making machines.
Heavy Iron Age - from 1850 to 1910, coal was king. Then gasoline.
Modern Age - from 1911 to 1945. War machines, typewriters, etc.
Nuclear Age - learning to tap the atom.
Space Age - orbital missions, satellites, world-wide computer nets. Information Age - from 1960 to today.
Computers and high learning improve life.
War Age - It's Time To Blow Everybody Up.
Colonization Age - reaching out to the nearest worlds, maybe the stars.
Star Age - forget slowdrive, we've got the hyperdrive at last!
Galactic Age - interstellar wars prevail, and technology is getting good.
Unity Age - After conquering space, what is left? The inner spaces of the mind...
God Age - leave the universe and make my own or just turn all of outer space that pink color I've always liked?
Decisions, decisions...

Science, Exotic (alternatives)

Organic Technology - why build something when you can grow it instead? "Living" machines, guns that make
their own power, but not animals that can reproduce.
Biological - solar panels? Just make a plant that produces electricity, and we have all the power we need. Turn
whales into ships. "Carrier pigeons" for faxes... What's fire?
Genetic - you know, I've always wanted an eye in my hand so I can see what I type...
Crystal - from a metal-poor world. But silicon glass works just fine for semiconductors and such.
Frozen - anything over 32 degress F and it melts. Superconductivity? All of our stuff is that, why?
Hydralic - water is such a nice medium. You can harden it, move it around, do almost anything with it. "The
Abyss" people.
Plasma - you handle starstuff like we handle clay. (You'd better have a race to match this!)
TeleMaster - forget fire and wheel and metal. Improve your mind, and you will be as limitless as thought itself...
Etheral - you are godlike, but not gods. Nothing is too difficult for you. In fact, life is getting quite boring. Wish
there was something to do.
Government

Anarchy - every man (and woman) for themself!

Despot - et tu, Brutus?
Monarchy - I and my children will rule by Royal Blood. How did mine become Royal? Well, that's an interesting
story... [Monarchy can also have some variation on it, like a Parliment.]
Democratic - representative or true democracy? Somebody has to make the decisions...
Socialist/Communist - For the common good, everyone but a few elite must work very, very hard. The elite like
to throw parties.
United World - sorta Democratic.
Elite - not exactly communistitic, but a "small" body rules the rest of the people with or without their consent.
Galactic Empire - the Emperor rules all. Never mind those pesky Rebels, my Imperial Fleet will deal with them.
Businessman - the one with the most money every ____ years rules.
Backstabber - the strongest rules, the weak are defeated! The Klingon Empire will...er, the strong empire will
defeat its enemies!
Unity - everyone is in telepathic comm with everyone else. What is government? What is authority?
Cycle - a complex system has different rulers at different times. Of course, if ruler X dies off early, Y will step in
early...
Hive - all hail the Queen or King, they are the only ones with enough brains o rule. Duh.
Attitudes

One - we are the only _true_ species in the universe. All others will be ex-ter-min-at-ed! Ex-ter-min-at-ed!
Warlike - sure, we'll let you live. As our slaves.
Passive - oh, you're the new rulers? Sure, move right in. I'll just cower in the corner here...
Friendship - the universe is one big happy place! We can all live together in peace and harmony!
Indifferent - we don't care, we don't use the same stars as you do. Oh all right, what do you have to trade?
"Normal" - things are OK unless we find out you have something we want, or if you do things we don't like.
Hidden - aaaarrrrgggghhh! You found us! Now we have to find a new hiding place! No, leave us alone!
Self-Centered - hi, bye. We have this really important project...
Weak - oh good, you found us! Quick, kill the big guys!
Rebuilding - Once, the galaxy was united under the Star League. Then it fell. Until a new enemy appeared,
mysterious invaders known as the Clans. Powerful and ruthless, they struck like lightning. But now re-united,
we're going to take back our galaxy...
Progress

Slow - I...am...not...slow!
Distracted - If it wasn't for __________, we'd be a lot more advanced by now.
Assisted - we, er, found some really neat stuff from this dead race, right? And now we have these really cool
ships and such. But we can't repair them...
Average - you crank stuff out about the same speed as everyone else...maybe if you went in a different
direction...

Speedy - lots of competition going on.

Interstellar - aim for the stars...
Quantum - you grow by leaps and bounds. You've got this one guy who's IQ is 1,000 or so. He makes new stuff
all the time. Hope he has a long lifespan.
Trade - If you just had the money, you could buy hyperdrive tech from the other guys...hey, steal it!
Advanced - _you_ sell stuff to others.
Fallen - a new "Dark Age" (due to something) has left lots of high tech lying around. It's up to you to re-discover
it as you crawl back from the caves.
Nanotech - building from the ground up. Transmutation of matter.
Singularity Curve - you have new models coming out every _week_, not every year. And you are approaching
the theoretical limit in some sciences. How good can it get?
