FUTURISTIC

Fashion Forward Trends

In todays scientific age, technology is no longer bound to

the avant-garde. From innovative fabric manipulations to
futuristic styling concepts, the digital world is taking this
trend by storm. Colours and designs are generated from
the world of computers, images are technically treated with
the power of digital technology and the internet inspires
this trend to become more interactive and 3D. The moulded
metal along with the sculpted plastic inspire the digital and
monochromatic designs. The colours are refracted and
distracted to create a myriad metallic fabrics and sharp
visions. Architectural structural rigid forms are derived
from the satellite space vehicles.
Metal is being carried into the new season with fresh
interpretations and unexpected combinations, bringing
along a sense of novelty. Metallic coating, complex mesh
structures, smooth impeccable finishes add depth and
drama and the starry spaced out prints offer a galactic touch.
Traditional silhouettes are sliced and manipulated to create
futuristic ones that divide the body with utmost precision
to a further extent of a purely futuristic trend. A robotic
stern feeling compliments the effortless edgy experience
of the final look.

extured metallics take centre stage with silver, gold and copper being the highlight of the theme. Newly developed
textures and finishes add a robotic sheen to the glistening shades. The computer gray-scale palette interspersed by
metallic pinks, blues and greens emit a shocking reflection on the palette. The story embraces iridescent oil slick alternatives
and ultra shine gold since the new science demands lustrous and porous colours proving advancement from the current age.

rom stiff leather jackets smothered in a dark palette to metallic sheen radiating on boxy ones, the theme embodies
silhouettes rich in texture and character. While cropped biker jackets and drooping peter pan collars create a niche for
the casual, the slithering sequin gowns and mesh inserts on fitted neoprene dresses contribute to the galactic evening.
Visibly thick and heavy, the garments lack pleating or drapes and instead embrace zippers and transparent filters on midi
length shift dresses, straight fit pants and high collared tops.

SPORTS

Fashion Forward Trends

An evolving trend being altered through seasons, sportswear

for the next Fall continues in a direction of sleek, minimal and
luxury, making itself ripe for new interpretations. Evolving
to become more subtle and to highlight a rather slick and
sportier attitude, the luxe athletic wear is no longer channelling
specific sports but is being morphed into an embodiment
of casual chic. Minimal look, clean lines, basic silhouettes,
rounded shoulder lines in breathable tech fabrics define the
macro appeal of the theme. Geometry is explored through
sporty cuts being incorporated into elegant silhouettes with
mesh panelling. Sporty stripes are being used sparingly, yet
not reduced in importance. A subtle touch towards femininity
makes the trend rather more diverse than ever.
The look is emphasised with comfortable fabrics such as
jersey and lycra knits, deluxe nylons, mesh, 3D, pique
offset by leather, plastics and perspex offering an inherent
persuasiveness. Skirts, tops and dresses, slick sports bras,
swimsuit cuts and bodysuits, ribbed hemlines, skater skirts,
skinny polo necks, hooded sweatshirts and track pants, all
incorporate a blend of sports with high fashion, characterising
the new sports couture.

he most conspicuous of all the colour palettes is achieved with primary shades of red, blue and green
supported by monotone colours of black, brown and white. Sporty accents of ultramarine blue, vivid
orange and nimble red lend an athletic vibe to the story with pitch black and stark white at the core of the
palette being uplifted by galactic blues. The peppy colours boost this theme with an invigorating energy.

oulded in breathable fabrics, the silhouettes are definitely relaxed with comfort riding high but at the same time sculpted
into rigid forms to achieve the much needed zing on the tracks. With track pants transcending to chic formalwear and
high heels, hooded sweatshirts and box pleated skirts arent far behind. Raglan sleeves on sweaters, cropped hybrids of a
bomber jacket and mesh tank tops round off the upper separates. Details such as side panelling, drawstrings and elasticised
waistbands attribute a sporty flavour to a magnitude of silhouettes- from dresses to shorts to skirts.

FOLKLORE

88

This story takes from a celebration of tradition the

increasing need to recognise your roots and for
communities to reconnect. Not just a static replication
of the past but rather a dynamic and living entity
which evolves with the culture. Inspired by customs,
convention, music, tribes, tall tales, myths and legends,
the look takes form when cultures overlap. Characterised
by a mix and match of high energy patterns and prints
with lavish fabrics, Folklore reflects a peoples society.
It is expressed through music, dance, drama, craft,
sculpture, painting, literature and other means of
creativity which generally requires little dependence
on high technology. Skill tends to be passed on from
generation to generation, and is mostly done by hand
or simple machinery.
Haphazard patchwork of patterns and prints, multicolour
stripes and zigzag designs combined with tropical
florals. Silhouettes offer a time honoured approach with
gathered full length skirts, off shoulder tops, turmoil
of prints and patterns balanced by neat nipped waists,
sheath dresses, jackets and cocoon skirts. Elements
like fringes, tassels and tribal fur are essential for
enhancement.

radition and culture are expressed with a bright vibrant palette from the broad families of orange and pink- a grand
celebration of ethnicity. The core palette of warm browns and oranges with muted neutralised ochre and gold offset a
mlange of colours. A high energy vivacious palette is presented with blaring colours such as tangerine orange, Indian red,
bark brown, ultramarine blue and fuchsia pink.

aining identity and way of life from the vibrant mixture of prints resonating in an amalgam of diverse cultures, the theme
is embodied in ensembles with fuller yet languid lines. From added ethereal silhouettes draped around the body to
more traditional slack ones- they all create a sense of free movement and expression. Wide legged pants, kaftan style tops,
billowy skirts, off shoulder shirts and swathed long dresses are meticulously adorned with intricate beads, suspended tassels
and tribal fur to add more personality to the ensembles.

CLASSIC

96

Think British, Scottish and Irish legacy, returning to heritage,

classic looks will be back for Fall14-15. Expect to see a
variable army of checks and plaids from overscaled blanket
and windowpane checks to the glorious Scottish checks,
with hints of sportswear and punk. Traditional icons and
silhouettes are revived with a contemporary twist to the
classic tartans, plaids and houndstooth. Silhouettes such as
sharp tailored blazers, well fitted pants and double breasted
coats are inspired by royalty and tradition, whereas the
traditional pleated kilt skirts and the oversized coats are
retained for its well deserved glory. The biker and aviator
jackets are reworked for the youth with blanket and plaid
checks used as panelling.
Smart finishing and precise cuts update this look. Key fabrics
used are warm heritage wools, tweed, houndstooth and also
novelty. Checks have been manipulated to create an ultra
sophisticated look. The plaid is being given a technological
uplift by being printed. Rustic textured weaves have a dated
feel to them and the silhouettes are far from keeping the
outline feminine yet tailored.

he story derives its colours from the classic plaid, checks and tartan patterns. The traditional key colours like red, green
and tonal blues from the Irish highlands and the Scottish uniforms are juxtaposed by the monochrome black and white
implemented in the houndstooth. The highland mountains echo shades of brown and ochre that beautifully compliment
and accentuate the core palette, while cloudy Irish skies inspire with their muddy blues and greys.

riven as a print based theme, the silhouettes are meant for the lady in charge who vehemently dons a power suit. Crisp
and tailored define the theme rightly with structured blazers, slim fit cigarette pants, double breasted coats and high
pencil skirts. Simultaneously, the romance of highlands and pastures is retained with Scottish kilted skirts, flirtatious wrap
coats and shorter car coats in houndstooth, tartan, plaid and every other check invented. Constructed in head-to-toe similar
pattern or mismatched in colour harmony, the silhouettes are far from dated, instead they succeed in rejuvenating the term
Powerplay.

BOUDOIR

104

15

Pure fantasy of the 1940s revisited - evoking sheer

elegance and depicting a provocative yet, reserved
kind of fashion. Boudoir celebrates unique pleasures
that complement the essence of femininity. Inspired by
a ladys dressing room lace peek-a-boos, marabou
feathers, ostrich plumes, silky satins and mannish fur
coats reign as fashion comes out of the bedroom. The
theme portrays a tender aesthetic depicted through
transparency and delicacy, with the casual pyjama
dressing given a glam treatment. Fur, the ultimate
boudoir trend is lined to fluid slips and sexy negligee.
Lace overlay gives a dressier look to appealing lingerie
which is perfect for outerwear as daywear.
This lavish trend demands oozing feminine accessories
with tantalising lace trims and the flirtation continues
with bias cuts revealing skin. Body slipping fabrics
and soft silhouettes highlight the sultry passion as
silk, lace, velvet, chiffon and satin characterise the
luxurious theme. Also, the nostalgic retro elements
revolve around a lady like aesthetic to comprehend
the affair

his theme incorporates profound enigmatic colours evoking an understated but striking passion. The palette resembles
a femme fatales dressing room, delicate yet fierce. Sensuality runs strong throughout the story, which is accentuated
by the richness embedded in deep colours of midnight black, tranquil white, vicious purple and fiery red. Sultry feminine
shades and hues of oxblood and wine are diffused by skin tones like brown, grey and nude.

heer panels and racy cuts hardly embody the essence of this theme, borne from the concept of innerwear as outerwear;
a sophisticated elegance is carried forth from rich, silky and feminine fabrics. Midi-length slip dresses in satin and silk
are adorned with lace trims, chiffon clad baby doll dresses, deep V necks on georgette tops and pyjama sets in velvet trims
bring together effortless separates as sultry sensual silhouettes with the simple inclusion of ostrich plumage, patterned lace,
marabou feathers and fur.
