Lesson Plan #3
Lab A
Art
Date:
Tuesday, March 15th, 2016
Supervisor:
Nicole McDanel
Lead Teacher: Maureen Mena
Children and Learning/Development Goals: List 6-7 children, their goals, and which activities (described in the plan) are designed
to advance the children toward their goal. The activity description should define how the activity relates to the goal. If it is not obvious,
describe it here. The list should match the list presented on your preplan.
1. Ava- Talk to others in the classroom. Ava has been doing a lot better with this. For today there will be several art projects set up
that will help Ava be engaged with the other children for example with the science activity they will probably talk about the
different objects in the ice cubes and have to share with one another.
2. Porter- Have fun, work on reaction when he doesnt get what he wants. During self-selected activities there will be a variety of
art activities where Porter will be able to be independent. In each of the stations there will be enough items to go around for all
the children so it will eliminate any fighting.
3. Benson- Transitions, be ready for kindergarten. The transitions for today will be a little different because of the field trip; this
will help stretch him a little with the change of schedule.
4. Tige- Colors, numbers, letters- In small focus we will have the tall paint activity which will have the different colors all together
this will be a good opportunity to identify colors and see where he is at.
5. James- Making friends, not being bossy. The body awareness activity in art will help him interact with the other children and get
to know them better. He seems to enjoy most of his time with art and creating different projects. Dramatic play may also be a
good time where he will be able to interact with the other children while he does something that is more comfortable for him.
6. McKoy- Colors, counting, shapes, and using scissors. During the button mural activity he will be able to recognize the numbers
and practice by putting the buttons.

Lesson Plan #3
Lab A
Art

Nicole McDanel
Lead Teacher: Maureen Mena
Preassessment and Findings:
Both Abby and Keagen identified paintbrushes as a way that we can paint. They also knew that you could use a
sponge to paint.
McKoy and Natalia didnt know the difference between the sponges they just called everything with a sponge, as
sponge.
In the art mystery tray Keagen and Sariah did not know the difference between paint, for example tempura paint
and watercolor paint.
James spent most of his time in self-selected drawing pictures with crayons and colored pencils.
In the painting with feet activity there were a lot of children constantly in that station. When I went over to
observe I could see positive faces of the children with their smiles and I saw the engagement in focus they had as
the sided on the paper. There was giggling and overall look of excitement. I heard a lot of woahs. Sierra got so
into the activity that she fell on the paint and got it all over her, but still had a smile on her face.
Children need to learn about different mediums and how art is not all about painting and drawing.
Children also need to learn that art can be a job/profession for some people.
Ideas to be Emphasized:
1. Art has different mediums such as painting, drawing. Sculpture, and textiles
2. Art can be someones job (profession)

Painting Ice (4)

Manipulatives:

Description/Activity Objective
Activity Description: Children will be painting ice
cubes with different kinds of paint. They will be able
to explore with different kinds of brushes and learn
about how you can manipulate art with other things
like ice.
Child Objective: Children will learn to distinguish
the different mediums of painting and talk about
how you dont always have to paint on paper. They
will learn how we can use outside materials such as
ice to manipulate and explore with our art.
Intentional Teaching: Teachers should talk about
the ice and how you dont always need paper to
paint. Teachers can also encourage the children to
use the different kinds of paint (tempura and
watercolor). They can ask the children, have you
used any other kinds of paint before?
Activity Description: There will be cardboard cards

with different kinds of textiles. Children will be able

to make a collage or dip them in pain.
Child Objective: Children will become familiar with
different textures and be able to explore a different
form of art.
Intentional Teaching: Teachers can talk about the
different textiles and mention when are other times
they use these items (rug piece, sponge, felt, paper,
tissue paper, and sand paper. They can encourage
that art can sometimes be random and that different
artist have different styles when they create art.
Activity Description: Contact paper will be taped
on the wall and numbers will be drawn with marker.
The children will have buckets filled with different
buttons and they will be able to place the buttons on
the big numbers.
Child Objective: This activity will help the children
with number recognition by putting buttons on a
visual number. They will also practice fine motor
skills as they place the buttons on the paper. (D2,
G39)
Intentional Teaching: Teachers can encourage the
children to draw the numbers. Teachers can also
help the children make different patterns with the
buttons by using different sized buttons (Can you
use he buttons to make another number that is not
on the paper, for example 9?). Teachers can relate
how artists create murals and how it can be a type of
medium (ITBE).
Activity Description: There will be ice cube trays
filled with magnetic objects and ice. Children will be
provided with magnetic wands and will be able to
explore and test out the different ice cubes.
Child Objective: Children will be able to explore a
different form of art/science (water that has and
been turned into ice). They will also be introduced to
how magnets work.
Intentional Teaching: Teachers can talk about how
you can use ice to make art such as sculptures.
Teachers can also talk about how magnets work and
how only certain objects are attracted to magnets.
The can ask the children, have you ever been to a
museum or an art gallery, what did you see there?

*Blocks: Sculpture
building (#3)

*Dramatic Play:
Art Studio

Activity Description: Easel will be set up next to

the sensory table with paper. There will be two
buckets with shaving cream in the sensory table and
paintbrushes will be provided. There will also be
liquid watercolor so that the children can make their
own colors with the shaving cream (D4, G47).
Child Objective: Children will be able to explore the
medium of painting, but with the twist of shaving
cream. The liquid watercolor that will be provided
will also help the children create different colors.
Children will use their fine motor skills as they hold
on the paintbrush.
Intentional Teaching: The teachers will talk about
how painting is a type of medium of art and that you
can use different things like shaving cream to paint.
Teachers can ask, what other things can we use to
paint with? Teachers can also reinforce how you
make different colors and color recognition.
Activity Description: Foam blocks and bamboo
blocks will be provided for the children. They will be
able to explore with two different kinds of blocks and
work on fine motor skills as they build.
Child Objective: The foams blocks are different
colors, therefore children will be associated with
different colors and be able to distinguish them as
they build. They will also work on team building by
putting all the blocks together.
Intentional Teaching: Teachers can prompt the use
of different colored blocks as they use the foam
blocks. They can also talk about what their building
and encourage them build high towers. With all the
different kinds of blocks they can mention mixing
two different mediums and relate it back to the art
activities. In art we can use paint and sculpture
making just like we are using these different kinds of
blocks.ITBE
Activity Description: Dramatic Play will be set up
as an Art studio. There will be 4 different stages with
the 4 different mediums we have been talking about
throughout the day (painting, drawing, sculpture,
and textiles). Children will be able to explore the
different mediums and hang them up. I want to clip
them on a piece of string that will hang along

background.
Child Objective: To explore different mediums and
become familiar with the profession of an artist.
They will be associated with colors, shapes, and the
different tools artist use (D1, G14). They will be
introduced to new vocabulary such as the word
imagination or profession.
Intentional Teaching: Teachers can talk about
colors, shapes, and the tools the children are using.
As they make different forms of art they can talk
about the different mediums they used and
encouraging them the creation they make. They can
talk about how some people make art as a living
