Make My Dream Ride a Reality

When I was 11, I begged my dad to buy me
a BMX bike I found at a garage sale. I had
already been obsessed with getting out to the
local track in Orange, California all summer,
and Dad hadnt budged. He was convinced
BMX was too dangerous for his daughter. But
after a semester of good grades, he eventually
gave in. That bike, which I still have some
33 years later, started a career of riding,
racing and a passion to find the best trails,
bikes and products around.
After 7 years of BMX racing, I found mountain biking. It was the early 90s and the bikes
and equipment were nowhere near meeting
the demands of the trails and terrain we were
riding. During those years, bikes went from
fully rigid to front suspension and eventually
full suspension; brakes went from pad brakes
to mechanical disk brakes; clipless pedals
were just coming onto the scene from road
biking; tires were single-wall, flimsy things
with tubes long before the days of tubeless.
But the industry was growing and they
empowered athletes to test their product and
report back. Our motto during those years

was, if you dont love what you have, make

it better! And we did. For 8 years, I was a
research and design (R&D) test rider
helping to make great products for the
overall success of our industry.
While racing at the highest level in downhill,
slalom and XC mountain biking, I didnt
realize that I had been granted access to the
boys club. Starting out BMX racing, that
is just how it was and as a woman in the
industry, I was just one of the guys. Sure,
when I was testing bikes and gear, nothing fit
me right. As a professional athlete, the luxury
I had was having frames built specifically for
me with components I had requested. Back
then, no one in the mountain bike industry
was catering to women on the retail level.
And it stayed that way for a long time.
Years after I hung up my racing hat, I
stumbled into coaching and realized that
there are a lot of women mountain biking
and wanting to learn how to mountain bike.
About the same time, my path crossed with
Liv, a brand committed to the female rider.

I could see that there was this need in the

industry to welcome women, especially into
mountain biking a sport that can be so
intimidating. And who would have guessed?
I could feel such a huge difference riding a
bike that was made for my female body
hallelujah!
This year, I was able to take the skills that
I developed during all those years racing
to help develop Livs new off-road range.
The goals were the same, except for one:
1) Make a great product for the overall
success of the industry; 2) Make a bike that
is fun to ride; 3) Make a bike that will go
faster, farther, be lighter, more aggressive,
better; 4) Make a bike JUST FOR WOMEN.
After the testing sessions were over,
I can say that Livs off-road line-up will
be impactful for the female rider. I can
look back at where I have been, where
mountain biking has come from and
being a woman in this sport I am
beyond stoked for where we are heading.
Actually, I can make my dream ride
a reality.

BIKE TECHNOLOGY
As Livs o-road line continues to evolve and oer product for every level and type of female
rider, we continue to stay committed to the 27.5-inch wheel size. Nowhere is it more evident that
women ride dierently than men, than on the mountain bike. The 27.5-inch wheel size combines
the most desirable attributes of 26 and 29-inch wheels and allows our engineers to design the best
possible bikes for how women ride. Livs entire o-road line-up, from sport-level to elite, features
bikes with 27.5-inch wheels.

Lighter Weight
The lighter the bike, the less energy
and effort you have to exert. Long rides
become easier, and you ride faster.
27.5-inch wheels are lighter than
29-inch, and they allow Liv to design
lighter frames. Livs elite athletes
benefit from the weight savings,
as evidenced by their World Cup
wins, and youll appreciate the lighter
weight too!

More Efficient
The ability for 27.5-inch wheels to easily
roll over obstacles means that you can
ride technical trails with less effort and
more confidence. Also, 27.5-inch wheels
accelerate more quickly than 29-inch,
so you use less energy to get rolling.
Quick acceleration increases your ability
to maintain momentum in rough terrain,
up hills or across flats.

Better Control
The optimal tire-to-ground contact
patch provided by 27.5-inch wheels
improves cornering, acceleration and
braking ability. And when combined
with Livs 3F womens-specific and
27.5-optimized frame geometry, the
27.5-inch wheel size delivers better
control than bikes with 26 or 29-inch
wheels. Also, because these 27.5optimized frames allow for excellent
standover clearance and a shorter
wheelbase, its easier for female riders
to find their ideal bike fit.

WOMENS-SPECIFIC COMPOSITE LAY-UP

Liv is dedicated to creating the best mountain bikes for

women. To do that, we design each frame from the ground
up, applying our 3F Design Philosophy to each bike in
the off-road line-up. In addition to our global database that
analyzes average body dimensions from women around
the world, we also take the input from our team of off-road
athletes and ambassadors, like former downhill mountain
bike world champion Leigh Donovan. With this input, we
can determine what women look for and how they ride to
allow Liv to produce bikes that meet the needs of even
the most demanding mountain bikers from downhill
shredders to weekend warriors.
For the first time, Liv is offering our complete performance
off-road range in a carbon fiber option. From our elite XC,
race-ready hardtail to full-suspension XC/trail and all the
way to our brand-new Enduro offering, Liv has created a
handmade composite frame specifically tuned for female
riders. Fine-tuned for compliance and stiffness where riders
need it most, each bike has a carbon lay-up schedule that

is a state-of-the-art, high-pressure molding
process used to produce complex-shaped
components. The key to Advanced Forged
Composite Technology is multi-directional
carbon construction and an innovative
new process that uses extreme pressuremolding. In Model Year 2017, Advanced
Forged Composite Technology composite
technology is used to manufacture the
upper rocker arm of the Maestro
