Portfolio Artifact Description: Wheel O Fortune Use an excel spreadsheet to count the
individual letters in a 300 letter sample from a Robert Frost poem.
What you learned: This was my first time ever using Excel. After using it for this activity I now
understand the programs importance. The formula tools make data collecting and processing
extremely easy and user friendly. I also took the data and turned it into an easy to read bar graph
at the click of a mouse.

Application of Skills Learned for Future: This activity is an extremely good way to get
students familiar with Excel or other spreadsheet programs. I could instead of having students
count letters; they could count syllables from a poem. With this I could have students create a bar
graph on what amount of syllables are used most in popular poetry.
