TimeConstraint:
Ifyoucreateanewrecordwhenapreviousrecordalreadyexists,thesystemreactsinoneofthefollowingways:it
delimits,extends,splits,ordeletestherecord.Thesystemreactiondependsuponthetimeconstraint.Thetime

constraintisacharacteristicofinfotypesandsubtypes.Inthemasterdata,wedifferentiatebetweenthree
differenttimeconstraints(1,2,and3).Besides,therearealsotimeconstraintsA,B,TandZ.

Infotypesorsubtypeswithtimeconstraint1mustbeuniquemeaningthatonlyonevalidrecordcanexistforany
giventimeperiod.Therecanbenogapsbetweenrecords.Whenyouaddanewrecordtoaninfotypewithtime
constraint1,thesystemdelimitstheoverlappinginfotyperecordonthekeydateandaddsthenewrecord.This
happenswiththeBasicPayinfotype(0008),forexample.Ifyoudeletearecordthatmustexistatalltimes,theprevious
recordisautomaticallyextended.Therecanbenogapsbetweenrecords.

Infotypesorsubtypeswithtimeconstraint2canonlyhaveatmostonerecordforagiventimeperiod.Therecanbe
gapsbetweenrecords.Ifrecordsoverlap,thesystemadaptsthepreviousrecordaccordinglybydeleting,dividing,or
delimitingit.Anexampleofaninfotypewithtimeconstraint2isthesubtypeSpouse(1)intheFamily/RelatedPerson
infotype(0021).

Infotypesorsubtypeswithtimeconstraint3canhavegapsbetweenrecordsoroverlappingrecords.Ifrecords
overlap,thesystemdoesnotreactatall.ExamplesofinfotypeswiththistimeconstraintareMonitoringofDates(0019)
andObjectsonLoan(0040).

InfotypeswithtimeconstraintAmayhaveonlyonerecordforeveri.e.,from1.1.1800to12.31.9999.
Splittingordeletionisnotpermitted.Example,Payrollstatusinfotype(0003).Thisinfotypewouldbe
automaticallymaintainedbythesystemwhenapersonishired.

InfotypewithtimeconstraintBaresimilartoinfotypeswithtimeconstraintA.But,theseinfotypesmaybedeleted.
Example,ApplicantPersonnelNumberinfotypeusedtomaintainapplicantspersonnelnumber.

Whenthetimeconstraintvariesaccordingtothesubtypeofaninfotype,thentheinfotypeisassignedtimeconstraint
