Delta Inc.

My watch is showing date as 17th March 2016 but I dont remember my wife wishing
me Happy New Year 2016. Is my watch showing the wrong year or my company
has failed to incorporate changes as required with changing technological upfront?
These were the thoughts of the CEO David Killer of the company Delta Inc. who is
fighting to find a feasible IT solution to solve his companys problem. Delta Inc. is a
Defense weapons manufacturer based out of Israel which has over 30,000
employees in Israel and 50,000 overall including all other countries it currently
operates. It has operations all over Europe, Asia and America. Weapon
manufacturer has a great potential for profit but at the same time has the risk of
losing important information which might put the lives of people at stake.
The companys engineers work towards developing current and next generation
defense weapons (like laser weapons and manually operational grenades with
artificial intelligence) and providing defense system services. Delta Inc., due to its
field of operations, follows highest level of data security in its systems for all offices
from R&D to testing, from Israel to America. It has provided defense weapons to
various countries including France, U.K. and India, and has invested highly in topnotch technology to secure its systems. The database include knowledge of all
weapons currently in production and distribution to various nations and only a few
scientists and Board of Directors have limited access to this database based on their
field location and operations carried out.
The company has four Defense research labs, two in Israel, one in Russia and one in
USA, equipped with high end IT infrastructure but it has been incurring very high
costs in maintaining and operating these systems (financials, if any, could be
assumed but need to be clearly mentioned with the solution). The company also has
four manufacturing facilities, all located in Israel, but these facilities are equipped
with 4-5 year old Systems, mainly for the use of the factory workers and
supervisors, and these systems have frequent operational issues. The collaborative
system (Mail and Mobility systems) used by the company is difficult to use for the
company staff, and the company had initially thought of moving on to IBM Lotus or
Microsoft Exchange, but due to very high setup costs required to implement these
systems, the company is thinking to outsource it, and is open to switch to a mail
platform that is simple to use, cost-effective but highly secure.
The company wants all its information including classified files, Sensitive Armed
Equipment information, and patent information stored in digital form along with the
database mentioned above, for easy access anywhere, at any time. The company is
also considering to do away with its current Data-center, but is critical of the
security threat, and hence has decided to only outsource it if the proposal seems

feasible. David Killer has been using mainframe servers, and has deployed a 100
plus people team to look after the servers.
The company needs a robust IT framework to support business applications such as
Document management system, Enterprise resource planning, Business process
management, business intelligence, and back-office settlement. It has a strong
state-of-the-art integrated technology platform developed on an ERP system
allowing adaptability for products and services.
The company has invited bids to provide them with IT infrastructure that delivers
high reliability, performance, flexibility, scalability and above all, an alignment with
its business model.
As the manager of New Business Services (NBS) team, it is your job to explore
various options that the company has, evaluate them in terms of feasibility, budget
and benefits sought, and provide the management with a plan that would help them
win the project.
