Sensor Installation Team:

Skills Requirements
Ideally sensors will be installed by a team of 2-3 technicians who, between them, possess
the following three skill sets/ assets:

1. Planner/ record keeper:

Responsible for coordinating installation; someone who holds detailed knowledge of
sensor installation locations knowing sensor locations really saves a LOT of time
onsite.
Also responsible for recording sensor details (serial numbers etc) as fitted in each
location.
Often, this person has coordinated the stud welding or is an inspector or similar who may
have originally helped to select sensor locations. Local plant knowledge is vital.
2. Sensor installer:
Key to the procedure, this person is responsible for the physical mounting of sensors,
their
alignment
and
subsequent
torque
tightening.
Manual dexterity is essential, as is an understanding and appreciation of precision
fitting work and torque fastening. Instrumentation, mechanical, UT or NDT
technicians are ideal for this role.
3. Tablet PC operator:
Responsible for confirming correct mounting of sensors from information displayed on
the tablet PC, and also for commissioning the sensors.
Must be basically computer literate (i.e. not afraid to use a PC), and able and willing to
follow simple yet accurate installation software steps.
An instrumentation technician is ideal for this role.
Note:
It is essential that studs are welded and suitable access/ scaffolding is arranged as required
for all applicable sensor locations.
Permit(s) also need to be in place to enable use of the installation tablet PC in all sensor
locations during installation.
Permasense will instruct all sensor installers in a classroom/ workshop environment prior to
any sensor installations in the field.
Your Permasense Support Engineer will also stay onsite to oversee the first ~25 or more
sensor installations.
When the quality of the sensors installation is at the required standard, the installation
technician will be awarded a certificate of installation competence.

Only certified installers should install Permasense sensors independent of Permasense Support
