20 Truths from

Bound to Be Free
by D.A. Horton

Ways to get back the focus.

For years D. A. Horton struggled with childhood wounds

that left
him starving to ear n Gods love in a kind of self-induced
legalism
that colored his entire existence. The pressure of his trajectory, his
relationships,
the desire for affir mation, and peer pressure weighed on him and
never
relented.
Then D. A. lear ned the truth: God isnt a callous taskmaster but a compassionate
hunter, trapping his prey with his trustworthiness, with the experience of reconciliation,
with the assurance of his affection, and with the joy of partnership with other saints.
Discover Gods grace as you surround yourself with his wonder fully freeing net of love.

1.By the Holy Spirits empowering

(Romans

8:9-

13), you can walk in the

freedom Christ has provided you with from sin
and the

encumbranc-

es that weigh you down

(Hebrews 12:1-2). (p. 11)

2.I have found that

when my focus is on

my

effectiveness

my trajectory, my re-

glory,

lationships, my lack of

my call as a minister

affirmation,

of the gospel. (p. 14)

and

the

success of my peers,
mental anguish hovers
over me like my own
personal rain cloud. It
is during thes e times
that I began to doubt

6.Self-induced legalism

masks itself as condemnation when conviction over

sin becomes real. Believers
must learn the difference
between conviction and
condemnation. (p. 32)

even

3.God has already de-

termined our steps, and

in our daily walk with
Him we progressively discover what Hes
determined.
(p.
20)

4.In the performance

trap, tension and turmoil combine to serve

as the double-edge
sword that lodges deep
in the heart of our ambition. With every life
movement we make,
the sword drives deeper into our souls, causing restless pain. (p. 24)

Gods call in my life,

5.Remember, the ten- 7.Its

sion in our life involves
our calling from God as
well as what others want
our life to look like. (p. 26)

and

for

lifes greatest
quandary. We were
created by God to
have fellowship with
Him, and since He
placed eternity in
our hearts (Ecclesiastes 3:11), we long to
be connected to He
who is eternal. (p. 39)

8.Negativity

and neglect are real. Inside the

performance trap they

each form a shackle

connected to chains of
regret and bitterness. Experiencing negativity and
neglect causes our hearts
to assume that God treats
us the same way. (p. 47)

9.We

must make the

conscious decision every
day to fight our fleshly belief that peace with God is
a feeling and not a fact
and we need to especially
do this when we are wres-

tling with the lack of affirmation in our life. (p. 51)

10.We really wont ap-

preciate what is been given

to us unless we contrast the
reality of our former life before we were in Christ. (p. 59)

11.The first guideline

is our trust in God. Instead of focusing on

the nuances of where
we think God is calling/
leading us, we place

our trust in His unfailing promises found

in His Word. (p. 62)

in the place of sinners as

a sinless sacrifice. (p. 62)

firmation from others

comes or not. (p. 62)

line is our reconciliation

to God through Christ
alone. The pressure that
we feel from performing
to maintain relationships
is no longer an issue because we now realize that
the only performance
God concerns Himself
with is that of Christ Jesus, who offered Himself

third guideline is Gods affection

for every single one
of His children. Its liberating when we understand that Gods
love for us is unfailing
and
unconditional.
This truth allows us to
receive Gods affection on an ongoing
basis and remain encouraged whether af-

line is the partnership

we operate in with our
brothers and sisters in
Christ. Once we begin
to look at the Scriptures regarding Gods
work in our life through
the stages of salvation
(justification, sanctification, and glorification) we can understand God is equally

us and we do not have to

return evil for evil towards
them (1 Peter 3:9). (p. 78)

18.The

12.The second guide-

17.God articulates this

liberating truth to His children throughout the New

Testament. He loves us
before, during, and after
we make our sinful and
honest mistakes. (p. 81)

13.The

freedom every believer has in

Christ provides an escape from the performance trap as it
relates to fights with
insecurity and depression because of lack
of affirmation. (P. 83)

19.What

amazes me
all the more about Gods

14.The fourth guide-

desire to save us is the

fact that we willfully put
ourselves in the position
of needing to be saved
because we pursued sin
instead of a Savior. (P. 91)

keeping all of the saints

during all of lifes ups
and downs. (p. 62)

15.Scripture eases the

tension in our souls by

telling us were guaranteed to grow in Christ
while we endure through
our afflictions. (p. 67)

16.When we walk in
forgiveness we
longer slaves to
fender and the
they committed

in Christ. Show them the
trap of His grace. (P. 95)

20.Imagine the free-

dom they will have as you

share Gods work through
your life story and how
you left the performance

Your Freedom Wasnt FreeKnow Your Worth

The dictionary defines self-worth as the
sense of one's own value or worth as a
person. So many times we define ourselves on the basis of how people feel
about us or on our gifts and abilities or
on our appearance or money or social
status or even possessions. We try to
define ourselves on the basis of what we
have or what we can give. All of these
measures are unable to determine our
true worth. Most people and even Christians fail to comprehend their true
worth.
We see young men dying in the streets
and young ladies degrading themselves
because they dont know their worth.
We see corruption abounding and saints
falling by the wayside because they
dont know their worth. We see believers competing with each other and trying to undermine each other because
they dont know their worth.
Many times we sell ourselves short. We
compare ourselves to others or may feel
inadequate or ill-equipped. The enemy
loves to try to sell us on the lie that we
are not enough. He regularly parades his
deceptive wares of self-doubt, low selfesteem, insecurity, and fear. He tries to
convince us that we are flawed and lacking in some way. The truth is we are
flawed. We make mistakes and there are
times that we are ill-equipped and even
unprepared. Most of us make mistakes
on a daily if not hourly basis. BUT, we

are also great beloved by the King of

kings and the Lord of Lords. He has proclaimed us as the apple of His eye.
For this is what the LORD Almighty says:
"After the Glorious One has sent me
against the nations that have plundered
you--for whoever touches you touches the
apple of his eyeZechariah 2:8 NIV

Yes, we are flawed, but we are also a

work in progress. If we yield to the process, we are each designer originals being patiently and lovingly crafted by the
Masters Hands into a reflection of His
beauty and grace. He has even numbered the very hairs of our heads. According to Psalms 149:13-14,
For
you
formed
my
inward
parts; you knitted me together in my
mothers womb. I praise you, for I am
fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very
well.

We were formed by the hand of God and

knitted together for His purposes. Whatever the circumstances of our births, we
werent thrown together haphazardly,
but we were reverently crafted and filled
with wonder and awe. Whether short or
tall, slim in stature or pleasingly plump,
He crafted you with purpose in mind.
The Holy Spirit is constantly at work in us
as well as for us. As we submit to Him,
Hes molding us more and more into

Jesus likeness and image. The Lord is

our creator and manufacturer and only
He can truly determine our worth and
value. He set our value so high that only
He could pay it. The price tag for whom
each of us is as a person was set at -- the
life of Jesus. We are so valuable that no
other being could bear the weight of our
price tagno one else could afford the
price for our salvation and deliverance.
And He paid it, not because we deserved
it, but because He loved us each so
much, He was willing to die for us all. We
are each of infinite value and worth
not based on what we have done, but
based on what Christ has done for us.
So, the next time people try to value you
as less than or tell you that you are not
enough, remember that the Lord has
declared that you are highly valuable
and of infinite worth. You are not valuable because of what you do or what you
have or even because of how people feel
about you. You are valuable because of
who you arethe son or daughter of the
King. And the next time the enemy tries
to sell you on low self-esteem or selfdoubt or insecurity or even fear, rebuke
him and remind him that you are a
designer original, who was fearfully
and wonderfully made and your worth,
dignity, and salvation are not for sale
you were bought and paid for on Calvarys cross. You belong to the KING.

DECLARE FREEDOM
Joel Osteen
I know this woman who had smoked cigarettes from an early age. She had tried to quit time
and time again, but she just could not stop. She was constantly saying, Ill never break this
addiction. Its too hard. And even if I do, I know I will gain so much weight. This went on for
years. One day, someone told her to change what she was saying and to call things that
are not as if they were. She started saying, I dont like to smoke. I cant stand the taste
of nicotine. Im going to quit and not gain any extra weight. She said that day after day.
Even when she was smoking and enjoying it, she would say, I cant stand to smoke. She
wasnt talking about the way she was. She was talking about the way she wanted to be.
About three months later, one morning she noticed the cigarette tasted funny, almost
bitter. She thought she had gotten a bad pack. It got worse and worse. Several months
later, it had gotten so bad that she couldnt stand it anymore. She stopped smoking,
and do you know she never gained one extra pound? Today, she is totally free. She
broke that addiction, in part, by the power of her words. She prophesied her future.
Some of you, like her, have spent years saying negative things over your life. I cant break
this addiction, Joel. My marriage is never going to make it. Ill never get out of debt. No,
youve got to send your words out in a new direction. You are prophesying the wrong
thing. Get in a habit of making positive declarations over your life. Every day declare that
your dreams are coming to pass. Its not enough to just believe it. Nothing happens until
you speak. Like the psalmist, when you say of the Lord, God will do what He promised.
Today as we celebrate our freedom in America, lets celebrate our spiritual freedom. Lets
declare the freedom that God has already given to us! Say out loud today this Freedom
Declaration:

Because of Christ, I am blessed.

I am prosperous. I am strong. I am healthy. I am talented. I am creative. I am confident.

I am secure. I am disciplined. I am focused. I am free from the past. I am free from
fear. I am free from condemnation. I am free from addictions. I am free from lack.
The right people are in my future. The right opportunities are headed my way. I will
accomplish my dreams. I will overcome every obstacle. This is my year! Things have
shifted in my favor. I am the redeemed of the Lord, and I say so today. I am free in

Jesus name!

The Charge
for Men

with Pastor Samuel

TLM: Pastor Samuel, its an outright pleasure to speak with you

today!
Pastor Samuel: The pleasure is absolutely mine. Thank you for this
opportunity!
TLM: Well, lets jump right in. Can you share with us what
The Charge For Men at The Life Center is?
Pastor Samuel: The charge for our men here at The Life Center
is for them to walk in Christ likeness and ultimately become
like Christ. Its a charge to understand the role and responsibility
they have as husbands, as priests of their homes and as fathers.
Its to be able to ignite the identity of Christ in them so that they
can pass it on to another generation. That may be through themselves,
through their own children, or through the community as a whole.
TLM: What do you believe is the cause for the exiguous male
presence throughout the kingdom of God?
Pastor Samuel: I believe that in the body of Christ weve missed a very key
component and have not been able to necessarily win the men to the Lord,
because we have always allowed another standard to be present. We have
not done a great job making men aware of what the Bible says about their
roles and responsibilities in the body of Christ or in their community. We
havent thoroughly explained the effect they are to have.
TLM: What role do you suspect that identity plays in the conversation
of winning men for Christ?
Pastor Samuel: I think a lot of men have levels of insecurity, because they dont
know who they are. If they understand their true identity, they will recognize
exactly how much power they actually have and that they are able to walk
according to the will of God based on who He has created them to be. They will
also be able to ascertain the realm of influence that Hes given them to have,
and the people He has for them to affect. I believe that we all were brought
into the world, both male and female, as a solution to problems and situations.
God, in His sovereignty, has created us all with answers on the inside of us.
However, if we never learn to understand what we possess inside of ourselves,
we miss out on the value of what were suppose to bring to society, to this
generation and to the time in which Hes purposed us to live here.
TLM: Do you believe that men play a significant role in their families

11

coming into the knowledge of Christ?

Pastor Samuel: Theres a statistic by the Southern Baptist
Convention of the men and their families who are won to
Christ. Ninety-three percent of the time, families come
to know the Lord, because the men are actually saved.
For the convert of children, it was 3.5% of the time the
families come to the Lord, because their children received
salvation. For the mothers, it was 17%. That shows you
the power of the impact that men have to bring direction,
clarity, and truth into their families. Its truly important
for us to start honing in on that. If they are walking the
will and the way of God, they will be able to release what
He has for them into the earth.
TLM: Is it important for men to be able to relate to
other men they may come in contact with?
Pastor Samuel: Absolutely! For the men of The Life Center
its important, first and for most, you build camaraderie.
Men draw men. In that same regard, men need a safe
place. Weve mastered the art of being disguised in who
we are. Weve learned how to mask our dealings with pain,
frustration, and anger. Weve become great at playing
down all of the affairs that men go through in their
lives. Weve learned to master the Im good face while
acting like weve got it all together. Its been ingrained
in us to acknowledge a situation where we may not be
in full control and see it as a sign of weakness verses a
sign of strength. We are prone to not cry out for help or
reinforcement when in need.
TLM: How can that be remedied within our ranks
here at The Life Center?
Pastor Samuel: Collectively, we have to have a thinking
here at The Life Center to create an open platform or
forum for 1.) Men to be men, 2.) To learn of the word of
God, 3.) To learn whom they are, 4.) Who theyre supposed
to be, and 5.) How theyre supposed to function in the
roles under their stewardship within their households.
Out of that, we are able to create a place where theres an
irresistible synergy; a place where men build men.
TLM: So, is it essential to have a hands on
approach to developing men?
Pastor Samuel: Yes, yes and yes! The Bible discloses
in Proverbs 27:17 that iron sharpens iron. Its vitally
important to be in a place where we are able to build upon
that and to sharpen one another. We must endeavor to
make sure theres also a place that if we see a brother go
astray, we have a group of men that are willing to go after
him and win him back to the things of the Lord. Weve

built that rapport here at The Life Center and we love to

see men walk in the fullness of who they were created to
be.
TLM: How will you venture to dispel the lone ranger
mentality that many men have developed?
Pastor Samuel: Make sure he isnt set up for a place of
failure. Weve created a lot of isolationism. Everybody
wants to be the star: the star point guard, the star player.
However, we know that partnership in team sports wins
championships. Whenever you just have one star, he
can be the greatest player in the world, but if he has no
supporting, cast nothing is going to get accomplished.
For all of us as men, there is greatness in us. There are
also great things that God has called us to do. Part of that
brotherhood is being a supporting cast one to another to
make sure we all fulfill the mandate of God on our lives.
TLM: Lets talk discipleship! Is it really important
or is it a bad investment?
Pastor Samuel: Discipleship is never a bad investment.
Ever! As it relates to discipleship, if we build men within
The Life Center, theyll surely reach the place where they
know their true identity. Consequently, they will begin
walking in the power of who they are. They then can be
able to have an influence on the outside. A lot of times
weve had very weighty demands on men and quite
frankly, we just expect that they should know how to do
it. Trust me, Ive found thats not the case. Many were not
taught. They were not developed. They were not reared.

The Bible suggests in 1 Corinthians 4 that we
have many teachers, but we have not many fathers.
I know that in this particular context it talks about
spiritual fathers, but in todays climate, its also the case
concerning natural fathers. You have men growing up
without father figures in their lives. You have some men
who had fathers, but dont know what it means to be
poured into and to be raised up. Subsequently, that void
has produced a yearning for a father in every aspect of
the term. From a spiritual perspective, they are yearning
for that as well. Their souls are in search of someone who
can look beyond where they are and pull them into who
they are supposed to be. Its truly a beautiful thing, but
the reality is that many men dont have it. Its a rarity.
TLM: Wow! In the most practical terms, how can we
make that a reality here?
Pastor Samuel: Well, we start by producing an
environment within The Life Center where men dont
simply have an expectation to encounter fatherly
attributes from leadership alone. The goal is to ensure

that they begin to walk in it themselves. We must become

a house that produces men who can serve as fathers in
the things of the Lord. Our ministry would then exude
the leverage that can change a massive community,
whether it is just confined to Sandy Springs or beyond us.
We would have the wherewithal to literally revolutionize
the world, like we should, and wherever we meet they will
experience God the Father.
TLM: How important is it for men to use scripture
to transform their perspective on fatherhood?
Pastor Samuel: Where do we begin? (Laughs) Its
extremely important! Oftentimes, we overlook the fact
that God is represented to us in scripture as a father. If
men dont know what it is to father according to the will
of God, then they run the risk of missing out on a great
measure of power. Sadly, they would completely miss out
on everything connected to it as well. If we can begin to
teach men to be fathers according to the likeness of God,
in whom they were fashioned after, all of a sudden you
have empowered a body of men who are now acquainted
with who they are. Youll have a body of men who are
empowered to change the world around them even
as Jesus was. Those men will be able to turn the world
upside down, because they have their true God-given
identity in tact.
TLM: Where should we insert the concept of fatherly
affirmation?
Pastor Samuel: Thats a great question and this is a great
place to do that! Our Jewish brothers have done an
extremely phenomenal job in that regard. Heres what I
mean. They spend time together around the table every
night. In this time, the father speaks blessings over their
children. I once did a survey in one of our mens fellowship
gatherings and we started talking about this
notion. We talked about the importance
of being in the family. Not only just being
there; but also actually being there.
As men, we cant afford to simply
just be a body in the home.
We must make intentional
strides to be present, both
mentally and emotionally,
and actually know whats
going on. Are we up to date
with the happenings of
our children? Do we know
what God has said about
them? Do you know what
God has said about your

wife and actively proclaim that over her? Our families

shouldnt hear more words of affirmation outside of
the home than they do within the home. I asked our
mens gathering to raise their hand if their father spoke
blessings over them and prayed for them regularly. It
didnt have to be every night, but at least once a week.
Out of 23 men, only one person raised their hand. He was
an elder whose father was Jewish. Without me knowing
it, that proved the point. Because of that occurrence that
man has had a massive affect on the lives of others.
TLM: Should men use the scriptures as an operation
manual in fathering?
Pastor Samuel: Precisely! We need to learn to do those
things that are biblical principles. Jesus Himself needed
His father to pronounce who He was over Him. In the
book of Matthew, we discover that God the Father
declared, This is my beloved son in whom Im well
pleased. Not only was there identity present, but there
was also affirmation on top of it. So, there has to be
the place, where were not only speaking life and truth
about who a person is, but that we take pleasure in it and
affirm the goodness of it. Most people hear things that
are negative. They are chopped down with phrases such
as Youre just like your father; Youre never going to
amount to anything. We must challenge ourselves to see
how it works in the reverse.
TLM: What will be the result if we see it worked in
the reverse?
Pastor Samuel: Power! When God introduced the
notion of fatherhood, He intended it to be, in its most
positive and prominent state, a means by which we
declare identity, and then speak well over whats in
our stewardship, concerning what that identity is to
produce in the earth. When we do that as men, well see
everything dramatically change in our families, on our
jobs and wherever we have influence. We will begin to see
an immense change produced in the Earth. The heart beat
of God is to see men become like Christ in the fullness of
His annointing and power!

What Would You Do?

by Judi Mason
In this article Im
challenging you with
one simple question:
what would
you do?

What would you do if you knew that

you couldnt fail?

What would you do if you stop

wondering about the opinions of
others?

At a young age, we were taught to go to

school, get a job, retire, and live happily
ever after; this was the prescription of
the American dream. But nowhere in this
prescribed formula does anyone take time to
ask if this is the life path that we really want
to pursue. Just because this worked for some,
it does not mean that it works for everyone.

What would you do if you failed you

knew you would only bounce right
back up?

What would you do if it didnt matter

how much money you lost; you

would always have more than what
you needed?

Today our childhood dreams have been

replaced with a job instead of school, kids,
deadlines, and attempts to stay relevant in
an ever-changing world. We have become
so engulfed in our self-absorbed drama that
we often ask ourselves:

What would your life look like if

you removed all of your excuses
and chose to live your authentic life
unapologetically?

What would you do if you became

keenly aware of your greatness?

Who have I become?

Like most people, you need to detox and take a
break from the drama of life and figure out who
you really are. But who has time? We all have
been guilty of allowing the challenges of life to
take us down a path most traveled. But today, I
would like to dare you to DREAM AGAIN!
Take time to look in the mirror and ask yourself:

What

are

you

passionate

about?

What would you like to accomplish?

Begin to put you and your God-given desires

first in your life. Give yourself permission to
pursue your passion and live your dream. I
challenge you to allow the answers to the
following questions to open your mind to the
endless possibilities that are ahead of you.

To find out how to make your current choices and

goals mirror your true desires and the necessary life
changes that will allow you to live your dream and
enjoy your life, read the full article at:

Mountain

I Want That
by Lady Junn

For years I had carried somewhat of a

burden trying to balance the world of the
secular music industry and my personal
walk with The Lord. I seemed to understand
what it was I was doing without explanation.
It was as though I were driven to perform
secular music...Jazz in particular. Although I
loved it and had been singing professionally
since I was 14 years of age, it didnt take
long before I began to get the cool
shoulder or the no way attitude from
fellow parishoners because it was looked
upon as sinful to be singing secular music
and you surely werent going to be allowed
to participate in singing Gospel music in
the church! One.. or the other.. not both!!
So I would walk away feeling that I was
doing something wrong.
I quietly went on with what was my career
over the years in hopes that I would
still be accepted if anyone found out.
I believe it was in 2009 when Dr. Lance
Walnau came to Life Center during one
of our fall conference times and it was just
like God himself decided to let me and
the rest of the world know what this cutting
edge thing I was doing was all about!
I sat glued to my chair, almost leaning
over as Dr. Walnau began to unfold
the revelation of THE 7 MOUNTAINS.
suddenly, THERE IT WAS...1.) Religion/
Church 2.) Family 3.) Government 4.)
Arts/Entertainment 5.) Business/Finance
6.) Education 7.) Media. The 7 mountains
to be taken back by Gods people!!!
Sooo.. thats what it was, God had been
preparing me as a part of his army to
take over the mountain of Arts and
Entertainment! Now it made sense.. I HAD
A PLACE...I ACTUALLY FIT SOMEWHERE!!

One of the most vile, corrupt, ungodly and

deceptive industries in our nation is the
Entertainment world. I believe that God
intended something else for that amazing
ability he has given so many of us, after a
he created it, right? I decided..I WANT THAT
MOUNTAIN!

With all of this I was, of course, aware that

heavy responsibility came right along with
it. Thank God I didnt have
much to change. Trashy music, lyrics and
actions could not be a part of how I went
about obtaining that mountain. Singing
songs about my lust for my neighbors
spouse was not going to work! There were
some songs that I had to change the
words to and some I would not be able to
perform AT ALL! My pledge is to clean living
no matter what city or town I am in.No
drinking (never have anyway) No smoking,
No bad language or bad attitude, always
looking for someone, some reason to pray,
some life to get saved or healed. Isnt it
amazing once the revelation comes? Its
so liberating. I found at least one of my
mountains....can you find yours?

Water IS
Your Friend

Arguably the most important part of
any persons diet, water is the key ingredient
in your body. The majority of your bodys
constitution is made of this. Most Americans
are mildly dehydrated due to their lack of
intake for proper metabolic function. Water
removes toxins and waste, is essential for tissue
growth, fat loss, and to keep energy levels high.

How much water

should I drink a day?
The formula used to be one size fits all -- eight
8-ounce glasses of water a day. But thats
changed, experts say. In general, you should try
to drink between half an ounce and an ounce
of water for each pound you weigh, every
day. For example, if you weigh 150 pounds,
that would be at least 75 ounces of water a day.

Whats

Drinking ice cold water throughout the day in the summer can help you
burn additional calories, because the body has a core temperature that
it likes to stay at and drinking enough ice cold water takes the body well
below that and it burns calories to vbring the core temperature back up.
