Cat DEO Monograde is the only oil approved by Caterpillar for use in 3600 series diesel
engines operating on distillate diesel fuels
Cat DEO Monograde is recommended for older Cat engines equipped with precombustion
fuel injection systems that permit the use of American Petroleum Institute CD or CF oil
Cat DEO Monograde can be used with low-sulfur diesel fuel and protects Cat engines

Recommended Use
Many Caterpillar machines operate in climates that have severely cold
wintersa condition that is hard on engines and equipment. Often, coldsoaked engines are difficult to start. These same engines may also be
subjected to the stress of very hot temperatures in summer.
Cat Arctic DEO SYN is beneficial at temperature extremes. The superior
lubricating ability of the blend of two Group IV synthetic base stocks
means diesel engines will start more easily and experience less wear at
temperatures as low as -40 C. At the other extreme, its high temperature
lubricity and superior oxidation resistance result in reduced wear in high
temperature operation. Cat Arctic DEO SYN is recommended for applications
with the following original equipment manufacturer requirements:

It provides extended drain capability when used with SOSSM Oil Analysis and
Cat Filters in accordance with guidelines in the publication "Optimizing
Engine Oil Change Intervals," PEDP7035.
Advanced Formula for Superior Lubrication

The Cat Arctic DEO formulation is a carefully balanced blend of two
Group IV polyalphaolefin synthetic base stocks and a unique additive
package to provide excellent anti-wear and foam resistance resulting in
extended fluid life and optimum engine life. It has outstanding thermal
stability and oxidation resistance. It is formulated with high quality viscosity
modifier additives which are very shear-stable to minimize viscosity loss.
This product provides the following advantages over mineral oil based
lubricants:
Improved flow and reduced friction at low temperatures
Greater lubricating ability at high temperatures
Increased resistance to oxidation at high temperatures
Higher solubility capability to keep soot and

Cat NGEO EL250 is designed by Caterpillar engineers to
specifications that provide superior lubrication performance in
engines using all types of gaseous fuels. This oil is designed to
optimize the life of each engine component. It has been tested and
proven superior in demanding applications throughout the world.
Performance
Cat NGEO EL250 has been formulated with increased detergent
concentration and acid neutralizing capability to assure less
lacquer and deposits on pistons and values. This oil provides
superior control of sludge formation, as well as outstanding
resistance to oil nitration and oxidation. This formulation is
designed to improve ring and liner service life and provide
increased soot-handling capability.

Nitration
The formation of nitrogen acids in oil, resulting in increased viscosity, corrosive wear, and
sludge and varnish on pistons and cylinder walls.
Sulfated Ash Level
The amount of non-combustible material (ash) left when a certain quantity of oil is burned
using a standard industry test method. These compounds contibute to TBN or oil alkalinity.

Fuel Compatibility
For maximum engine service life and oil life, use Cat NGEO
EL250 with low sulfur gaseous fuels that contain less than 0.43
mg hydrogen sulfide per mega Joule (0.45 g hydrogen sulfide
per BTU).
Engines using high sulfur natural gas or bio-gas (from landfills
and sewage digesters) may also benefit from Cat NGEO EL250,
but a shorter oil change interval may be required.
Cat Natural Gas Engine Oil is fomulated from select base stocks
blended with special additives to provide:
Excellent anti-oxidation/nitration properties
Thermal stability
Reduced carbon and sludge formulation
Cat NGEO EL250 is also compatible with exhaust catalyst
applications that require a low phosphorus oil. With a typical
phosphorus level of 300 PPM, Cat NGEO EL250 meets the
requirements of most catalyst suppliers.

Cat Special Application Engine Oil is the

ventilation system. This system circulates
blowby gases from the engine crankcase to the

Cat Biodegradable Hydraulic Oil (HEES) is a
readily biodegradable oil that resists oxidation,
corrosion, and wear. It meets accepted standards
to be considered biodegradable and nontoxic.
Recommended use
Application
Cat BIO HYDO (HEES) is recommended for
Cat hydraulic systems that require readily
biodegradable and low-toxicity fluids, as well as:
Cat hydraulic systems operating over a broad
ambient temperature range (-32oC to 43oC)
and at tank temperatures up to 100oC.
For maximum performance and environmental
compliance do not mix Cat BIO HYDO
(HEES) with other oils.
The maximum recommended water content for

Proper Mixing Procedures
To maximize the effect of DEACs inhibitors and prevent chemical incompatibility with
your machines cooling system, it is important to always mix the fluid with deionized or
distilled water.
To protect your system from harm, observe the following guidelines:
Never use salt water or water from a natural body of water
Select the best quality water available
Have the water tested by a laboratory
Never use water alone as coolant
Cooling system problems can also be caused

by improper dilution of the coolant/antifreeze
concentrate with water. Take the following
steps to ensure maximum protection:
Mix water and concentrate thoroughly
Always mix in a clean container
Never pour water and concentrate into the
radiator without mixing them first

So-called dirty filters can be more efficient than new ones because dust cake buildup on the surface actually increases filtration. Designed with this concept in mind, UHE
Air Filters feature a unique media. This media has a very fine synthetic surface layer
that covers the entire outside diameter of the filter. Heres how it works:
Fine particles (dust, heavy carbon/coal dust, soot, talc, etc.) immediately cake
on the surface, quickly making the filter very efficient. Less dust gets to the engine,
improving fuel economy while reducing wear and maintenance costs.
Surface particle cake is more porous than dust-coated media, causing less restriction

Checking for Accuracy

The air lter service indicator will
help you avoid changing lters too
frequently which wastes lter life,
costs money and unnecessarily
introduces contaminants. To make
sure the service indicator is operating
properly, Caterpillar recommends
changing it once a year. It should be
checked every 250 hours in normal
conditions or daily if dust is severe.
There are two steps to check the
operation:
ResetThe indicator should reset
within three pushes.
Yellow Core MovementAfter the
engine accelerates to high idle, the
yellow core should latch at or near
the highest vacuum attained during
the acceleration test.
If the indicator will not easily reset
or not latch at the highest vacuum
level attained, the indicator should
be replaced.

Cat Crankcase Ventilation (CV) Filter

Smart Design
The Cat CV Filter incorporates the housing end cap, o-ring seals and ultra-high efciency
media into one convenient, compact unit for ease of maintenance.
The ultra-high efciency media element removes vaporized oil droplets and particulate
matter from the crankcase blow-by stream. Oil returns to a liquid state as it passes
through the media. The oil is then captured in the lter housing and recycled back to
the engines oil sump. At the same time, particulate matter and contaminants are trapped
in the media. Cleaned blow-by is routed to the atmosphere through the CV systems
outlet tube.
Easy to Service
The Cat CV Filter and related service

parts will be available through
authorized Cat Dealers, including
TEPS Dealers.
Replace the Cat CV Filter at the oil change interval recommended in the Operation and
Maintenance Manual. Customers using extended oil drain intervals may need to change
the lter at intervals differing from the extended oil drain interval.
No special tools are required. To remove the old lter, unscrew the used element from
its housing and discard following local lter disposal regulations. To install a new lter,
lubricate the o-rings with clean engine oil, thread into the housing and tighten to 25 N-m.
Do not over tighten.

Contamination Control Enhances

Performance
Contamination control is increasingly important for maximizing performance and service
life in fuel systems. Some Cat fuel systems exceed pressures of 30,000 psi in order to
deliver more horsepower, better fuel economy and fewer emissions. This necessitates
tolerances smaller than five microns between parts. These tolerances and injection
pressures make fuel systems more vulnerable to wear and abrasion.

Bypass Dash Indicator
Upgrading from a Cat Standard Efficiency Filter will
provide better contamination control. If the system has
a filter bypass dash indicator, and the Parts Identification
Manual recommends a Cat Standard Efficiency Filter, the
Advanced or UHE filter can
replace it.
