APHYTOCHEMICAL,ETHNOMEDICINALANDPHARMACOLOGICAL

Abstract
DipterocarpusarethethirdlargestandmostdiversegenusamongDipterocarpaceae.Theyarewellknownfor
timber,butlessacknowledgedforitsmedicinalimportance.PhytochemicallygenusDipterocarpushasreportedto
containresin,coumarinanddammar.TheResveratrolclassofcompoundsisoneofthemajorchemicalconstituentin
thisgenus.Generally,thebarkofDipterocarpusispresumedtobethemostactive.Dipterocarpusspeciesshowed
AntiAIDS,cytotoxic,antiinflammatory,antibacterial,antifungalandantioxidantactivities.Therapeutically
importantspeciesinthisgenusareDipterocarpusobtusifoliusTeijsmexMiqbecauseitmayhavecuredagainstAIDS.
Wedocumentnumberofspeciesinthisgenus,theirsynonyms,distributionaroundtheWorld,traditionalnames,
ethnomedicinaluses,isolatedcompounds,chemicalstructure,chemicalnatureofisolatedcompounds,
pharmacologicalreportsandexplaintherelationshipbetweenisolatedcompoundsfromthisgenusandtheir
therapeuticuse.
