Philippines own 11/11

Nature has its own course, own timeline and own manner of giving and getting what is
due to whom and when. It has its own system of maintaining balance and equilibrium. This is
also the system that made man experience the wrath of nature taking its course through the
deemed most powerful tropical cyclone Yolanda. The devastating typhoon also known as
Haiyan as its international name, came into the area of responsibility of the Philippines last
November 8, 2013 and had its strongest hit to the islands last November 11. This paper aims to
fill a niche and contribute to the fight towards the resurrection of the ruined cities executed by
Yolanda by stating its effects and after effects as well as the measures made to revive the affected
areas.
Overwhelming damages, casualties, deaths and destruction was endured by the Southern
part of the Republic of the Philippines as well as the Micronesian and some parts of Vietnam.
However, the Vizayan region and some parts of the Mindanao region were thoroughly destroyed
by the herculean typhoon resulting to the six thousand reported fatalities.
The traumatic event caused the Philippine government to evacuate all citizens from the
afflicted areas to the tent cities and to nearby uninflected places such as Cebu and Davao. This
category five super typhoon have eradicated buildings, residential lots, business sectors as well
as educational institutions and civilization in its extremity. Haiyan have encroached not just
material ownership but lives as it took thousands from the southern region. Communities,
institutions, cultures as well as religions set aside their differences while they weathered through
the storm, landslides, floods, hunger and diseases. The bayanihan system of the Filipino spirit
was once again witnessed.
This so called 11/11 tragedy as compared with the 9/11 twin tower bombing have called
upon the unfathomable support of the nations. The different countries such as the United States
of America, Peoples Republic of China, Japan and many more countries have extended their
sympathetic hearts, understanding minds and their generosity in building back not just buildings
and material things but also lives, hopes and dreams of the Filipino people.
The support extended by other nations, however, laid a question on the movements
supposedly done by the current Philippine government. Allegations, disputes, politicization were
few of the mud slings reflected by the government. The tragedy then puts the Filipino
community into two sparring consciousness: the world being a treacherous black veil and that the
government being a system of gleaming promises made of air.
