1.0 Purpose:
This Procedure is intended to provide guidance and instructions for carrying out the
Vacuum Pump Start-up Operation
2.0 Scope:
1. This Procedure is applicable to Vacuum Pump.
Total 3 Nos Pumps (2W+1SB)
3.0 Responsibility:
1. All the personnel involved in carrying out /supervising the above activities are
required to ensure implementation of this procedure.
2. In the event of any changes required in the procedure such changes may be
requested with Site in charge who would take appropriate action with approval
from respective departmental heads.

9. Open the cooling water inlet valve of cooler of vacuum pump A and B gradually.
After the air in the cooler of vacuum pump A and B is discharged completely, close
the air exhaust valve and open the outlet valve of the cooler completely.
10. Ensure lubricating oil level to the bearings of pumps is normal.
11. Ensure Reheater vent is in closed condition.
12. Ensure Gland steam Condenser is charged from water side.
13. Ensure Turbine in Barring Gear.
14. Ensure Cooling water system in service.

Remove the stand by pump from interlock & Stop Vacuum pump from DCS.
Ensure Inlet valve of vacuum pump will get close.
Stop the Recirculation pump.
Rack out 415 V vacuum pump breaker & lock the pump from DCS.
Isolate the air inlet manual isolation valve & lock the pneumatic air inlet valve from
DCS.
6. Isolate the CW I/O valve of cooler ,isolate make up to separator tank
7. Open the vent and drain the cooler & pump.
8. Ensure all the isolations completed and then issue the permit as per the approved
procedure.
11.0 EMERGENCY OPERATION OF VACUUM PUMP:
Vacuum Decreases:
1. Check vacuum pump separator level is normal otherwise make-up water up to
Normal Level.
2. Check sealing water supply to vacuum breaker valve is normal.
3. Check gland sealing supply Pr. And temp to main turbine is normal.
4. If still vacuum is dropping, start standby vacuum pump.
5. Stop the pump and PTW may be issued for cooler backwashing.
6. GSC exhaust fan vibration or current is high check level of G.S.C, if level is high
open emergency drain of GSC. Check GSC exhaust fan body drain and open it.
7. Check the Valve gland sealing pressure.
If the separator water level high:
1. Check the over flow.
