MANAGEMENT PLAN

Mr. Guzman
INTRODUCTION
I am happy to welcome you to the 2016-17 school year!
A vast majority of Americans believe the primary purpose of public schools should be to
prepare students to be responsible citizens. My role as your science teacher goes far
beyond teaching you about cell theory, photosynthesis and DNA...etc.
To successfully reach these goals, it is important that students (you), parents, and
teachers form a partnership to ensure your success. As a team, we need to commit to
the following principles:
I promise to do all I can to teach, inspire, motivate, and encourage you to
succeed.
Each student must accept personal responsibility for his/her own actions and
learning.
Parents are asked to support and help monitor their students progress.
Respect for all people and things is expected at all times. It is important for you to be
attentive and present in class. Avoid distractions that keep you and others from learning
i.e., not getting enough sleep or not eating well; writing/texting notes to friends,
talking/daydreaming when you should be listening; and of course, no thumbing on
your cellphone!

CLASSROOM PROCEDURES
WHAT is a Procedure:
Procedures are part of life. We follow procedures when we go to a movie, board an
airplane, or attend a wedding. The reason we have procedures in life is so people can
function well in society by knowing the acceptable and most efficient ways of doing
things.
WHY we use Procedures:
During class, we have limited time and space to complete our daily objectives. The
amount of movement and chaos within the classroom will need to be kept to a
minimum, so all students have the opportunity to focus on learning. To prevent any
confusion on what I expect from you and you can expect from me on a daily basis, each
day, we will be using the following procedures to help everyone stay focused and ontask.
1. The Start of Class Routine
a. I will greet you at the door.
b. Take your seat immediately.
c. Prepare yourself for class.
d. Hold questions until the appropriate time during class.
2. Cell Phones in the Classroom
Cell phones are not to be taken out during class, unless directly instructed by the
teacher. If the teacher sees a student using a cell phone during class,
a. The teacher will take up the phone until the end of class, no exceptions.
b. Student must sign the technology distraction log to have the device
returned.
c. If this happens more than once, the cell phone will be confiscated until
the teacher calls/emails your parent/guardian to discuss the issue.

Dismissing the Class
The bell does not dismiss the class. The bell just notifies the teacher that it is time to
transition. Once we are all ready to be dismissed, I will release you to leave for your
next class.
a. Before being dismissed, all students will need to be sitting in their
assigned seats and their immediate area picked up.
6.
Collecting Homework
a. If you have any homework that needs to be turned in, please place it
(facedown) on the upper left corner of your desk.
b. Be sure your name and class period are clearly written on your paper.
o The SA will pick up assignments during attendance and place them
in the appropriate basket.
