1.

Alignment & grade are subject to adjustment to suit existing field condi
tions.
2.
Distance & elevations are in meters unless otherwise specified.
3.
All works shall comply with the DPWH Standard Specifications for highway
s & Bridges revised 2004 & special provisions & specifications pertaining to thi
s project.
4.
Design was based on data obtained from the survey tem of the Aklan Dist
rict Engineering office
5.
All concrete to be used for the other structures should have a minimum c
ompressive strength of 3500psi at 28 days.
6.
All reinforcement steel to be used shall be grade 40 steel.
7.
All sheet piles to be used should be hot-rolled steel sheet piles with m
in. thickness of 10.5 mm, effective width of 400 mm, effective height of 100 mm
& unit wt. of 48 kg/m. FY36
8.
The materials for the embankments shall not contain any stump, brush, we
ed, root, turf, clod and other organic matter, clay of other materials shall be
broken and beaten and no accumulations at the foot of side slopes of embankment
will be permitted.
Earthfill materials shall make due allowance for consolidation and settlement wh
ether compaction is specified or not such levels, widths and dimensions of the f
inished surfaces shall not be less than the levels and dimensions shown on the d
rawings.
Prior to the commencement of earthfill, the contractor shall carry out under the
supervision and to the satisfaction of the Engineer a series of field test to d
etermine the optimum condition of compaction and the minimum number of passes fo
r each type of equipment necessary to compact to the required specification here
after stated for each type off fill materials.
No fill material shall be placed when, in the opinion of the Engineer, satisfact
ory work cannot be done on account of heavy rain or other adverse condition. Ear
thfill shall be constructed horizontally to the full width of the embankment in
uniform thickness not to exceed 20 cm. after compaction. Obtaining and placing o
f materials shall be blended sufficiently to secure the highest impermeability a
nd stability of the compacted fill. If the surface of any layer of embankment is
too dry or smooth to bond properly with the layer of materials to be placed the
reon, it shall be moisture and/ or scarified in the approved manner to provide s
atisfactory bending surface before the next succeeding layer is placed.
The fill materials shall be compacted to a density of not less than 100% of the
maximum dry density. The moisture content fill materials shall be to 4% of the o
ptimum moisture content.
No materials shall be placed on any portion of embankment foundation until such
foundation has been cleared, approved by the engineer for placing fill.
Fill materials adjacent to structures shall be placed in such a manner as to ens
ure that they can be satisfactorily compacted without damage to the structures c
ompaction adjacent to all structures shall be carried out by hand or by suitable
hand operated plant.
Unless otherwise specified, no fill materials shall be placed and no compaction
shall be permitted to adjacent to concrete for fourteen (14) days after placemen
t of concrete. Compaction of backfilling materials placed above buried concrete,
however, shall not be permitted to be carried out with vibration except with th
e prior approval of the engineer.
9.
Steel sheet pile shall be of the type, weight and section modulus indica
ted on the plans or special provisions, shall be conform to the requirement of i
tem 400, Piling, sub section 400.2.7, Sheet Piles.
Sheet Piles shall be driven to elevation shown on the plans or as directed by th
e Engineer, where impractical to drive to plan elevation due to subsurface condi
tion, the driving of piles may be stopped at the higher elevation with the writt
en permission of the Engineer. However, before granting such permission, the Eng
ineer shall ascertain that the contractor has adequate equipment for the request
ed driving and that the piles can be driven to the plan elevation with the prope
r use of this equipment.

The top of the piling shall be driven or cut-off to a straight line at the eleva
tion indicated on the plans.
The requirements governing the installation of sheet piling shall conform in gen
eral to those governing bearing piles as set forth under item 400, Piling.
Confirmatory Boring Test shall be conducted prior to the project implementation
