Computers in Society
A computer is a general-purpose device that can be programmed to perform a set
of arithmetic or logical operations. Nowadays computers are used in every sphere of
life. Computers have made our lives much easier than the past. It has provided
many opportunities to people to work as well as to learn at home. In banks,
factories, offices and schools, we find computerized systems all around us. Some
important points on the given topic are as follows:
1. Computers are used in stores to keep the record of stock and keep the
shopkeeper updated about Point of Sale terminals. Bills and receipts are
created over computers without any waste of time and any mistake.
2. Computers are also used in the field of medicine. They are sufficiently used in
the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for monitoring the patients health and keep
the doctor updated about the patients situation, alerts them when there is
any unusual situation.
3. Computers are used for product designing and manufacturing as well.
Computer Aided Design software (CAD) delivers ways to develop a
representation of a product and to testify it in a variety of simulated
environments.
4. Computer is also a wide-range source of entertainment for the people. It
allows the users to play many games, watch movies, listen to songs, watch
live TV shows. Now-a-days it keeps you updated us about latest news and
weather as well.
5. Computers have changed many disabled people's lives, especially, those who
are not able to leave their house because of their disabilities. For people who
are confined to wheelchairs, computers give them a chance to experience
many things that would not be possible for them otherwise.

6. Many people use computers for negative purpose. They play games or chat
for a very long time which results in wastage of time and energy. Our young
generation is now spending more time on social media websites like
Facebook, Twitter etc. or texting with friends all night through smartphones
which is bad for both their studies as well as their health.
7. Nowadays private data on our computers in not secure as hackers can easily
access all our data. They also send viruses into our computer which destroys
our computer which results in wastage of money. They also hack our credit
card numbers and steal lot money from them.
8. The improper and prolonged use of computer can result in injuries or
disorders of hands, wrists, elbows, eyes, necks and back. The users can
avoid health risks by using the computer in proper position. They must also
take regular breaks while using the computer for longer period of time. It is
recommended to take a couple of minutes break after 30 minutes of
computer usage.
9. The computer manufacturing processes and computer waste are polluting the
environment. The wasted parts of computer can release dangerous toxic
materials. Green computer is a method to reduce the electricity consumed
and environmental waste generated when using a computer. It includes
recycling and regulating manufacturing processes. The used computers must
be donated or disposed of properly.
10.
Cyber Bullying is a big disadvantage. Cyber is done through the use of
internet. In cyber bullying people hack someones private data and share it
on the internet where everyone can see it. They hack someones email ID
and send emails to people under the name of the person whose email has
been hacked. Cyber bullying results in harassment and embarrassment for
the person who has been bullied.
