Management of Technology Final Exam

To substitute the final exams, each students must do the business model canvas take home
project. The business model canvas assignment is as follows,
1. Based on class list number (attched) pick the companys product. The list will be restarted
after the last number, choose the products to maps out Business Model Canvas:
a. Google Free Internet (Google Plans 180 Geo-sync Satellites to Give Free Global Internet)
b. Google Driverless Car
c. Wikipedia
d. WAZE Community-Driven Maps (if they are not acquired by Google)
e. Facebook Messenger
f. DropBox Services
g. Chrome OS Notebooks
h. Nokia Maps (after the mobile hardware company was sold to Microsoft)
i. AppleTV/GoogleTV/Amazons Fire TV
j. Portable 3D Printer
k. GoogleDocs
l. Barnes&Noble Nook
m. WhatsApp Paid Subscription Services (if they are not acquired by Google)
n. Path (acquired by Bakrie)
o. Firefox by Mozilla Foundation
2. Map out the current business model canvas and explains these business model in 3 pages
including several paragraph of introduction regarding the company. I suggest to use
companies that well known or that I could easily search on the internet. The profile should
also mention:
Relationships between value proposition keywords to the design of the map (such as
reliable means training for customer service is important etc.)
Relationship between target market characteristics to your value proposition, and why you
think you are better than competitor
A table list on how key activities are derived from all activities needed to support customer
relationships, channels and value propositions
A table lists on how each key activities is related to key resources, cost structure and key
partners
Can you think of more than 5 revenue streams that you can generate? Remember, revenue
stream is not coming from variety of a product/service, but different product/service
3. Create a relationship matrix, where the x is range of products portfolio of the company, and Y
is the components of the 9 building blocks. For example in the Y axis, create for sub-group
Value Propositions, with 11 propositions components (p23-p25), then link this with each
products that could serves one or many values. Do this for all components of the 9 building
blocks (p21-p41). Please also note that I am using the 1st version of the books, so if there are

4. Identifying Patterns. 1 page, what do you think the company business model patterns is, and
why.
5. Mapping Environments. Answers the key questions from p201-209, in a table forms, to
identify key challenges and opportunities for your business models. Identify how your

answers could create negative or positive impacts on the business models based on 2
characters abbreviations of the canvas. For example if the environment could have negative
impact on value propositions use code: (-VP), however it creates opportunity in channels then
use code: (+CH). For each of your answers. Print out the SWOT Analysis from p.217-224, than
manually fill up the questionnaire as an appendix for this report.
6. For each of negative aspects you find in point 4, list what countermeasures should be in place
to reduce its impacts. This is a risk map.
7. Mapping 3 new alternative future business models based on how your environments analysis
would shift the epicenters (p139). Notes: Please make sure that you design the map elegantly,
easy to read, and not to modify the framework in anyway (layout etc)
8. Develop each new business models stories (p176, p177) max 2 pages for each stories. There
will be 3 stories in total.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
These Assignment must be submitted in PDF formats (read the BRP of Manajemen Teknologi sent
when you joined the groups), collected by the head of the class, burnt in DVD and given to me on
Tuesday, August 19, 2014, at exactly 10.45 am. This would also means that we do not have any
exams on this Tuesday, August 12, 2014, however you must sign the attendance forms at the
secretariat at that date.
