Thepurposeofthisprocedureistoprovideforasystemandinstructions,andtoassignresponsibilities
forevaluatingsignificanceofEnvironmentalAspects.(Theactualcriteriaandmethodforevaluating
significanceofaspectsareprovidedinGuideEPG3102,EvaluationofSignificanceofEnvironmental
Aspects.)

ThisprocedureappliestoallEnvironmentalAspectsofcompanysactivitiesproductsandservices.

RESPONSIBILITYANDAUTHORITY

Amultidisciplinaryteamrepresentingvariousdepartmentsandfunctionsinthecompanyisresponsible
forevaluatingsignificanceofinitialEnvironmentalAspects.

Fornewaspects,evaluationofsignificanceiscarriedoutbytheEnvironmentalRepresentativeandat
leastoneotherpersonfamiliarwiththeevaluatedaspect.

Topmanagementreviewsandapprovesinitiallyselectedandnewsignificantenvironmentalaspects.

DEFINITIONS

SignificantEnvironmentalAspect:Anenvironmentalaspectthathasorcanhavesignificant
environmentalimpact(ISO14001Section3.3)

PROCEDURE

General

Thepurposeofevaluatingsignificanceofenvironmentalaspectsistoselectagroupofaspectsthatwill
becomethefocusoftheEMS,andforwhichourcompanywillconsiderimplementingspecialcontrols
andmonitoringsystems,andmaydevelopenvironmentalobjectivesandtargets.Thisgroupofaspects
definesthedirectionofourenvironmentaleffortandallocationofresourcesfortheprotectionofthe
environment.

Whiletheevaluationofsignificanceofenvironmentalaspectsiscarriedoutusingasystematicand
deliberateprocess,logicandjudgementmustalsobeusedinthefinalselection.Thesystematicprocess
alonecannotabsolutelyguaranteecorrectresults.

EvaluationofSignificanceofInitialEnvironmentalAspects

IntheinitialphaseofestablishingandimplementingtheEMS,significanceofenvironmentalaspectsis
evaluatedbyamultidisciplinaryteamincludingrepresentativesofvariousdepartmentsandfunctionsin
thecompany.TheEnvironmentalRepresentativeisresponsibleforestablishinganddirectingtheteam.

Significanceofenvironmentalaspectsisevaluatedusingasystematicriskanalysismethodology.
Aspectsareratedwithregardtotheseverityofassociatedimpacts,probabilityofoccurrence,andother
relevantfactors.TheresultsareenteredontheEnvironmentalAspectEvaluationChart,andthe
combinedsignificanceratingiscalculatedusingaspecialformula.

GuideEPG3102,EvaluationofSignificanceofEnvironmentalAspects,explainstheratingsystem,
providesaformfortheEnvironmentalAspectEvaluationChart,anddefinestheformulaforcalculating
thecombinedsignificancerating.

Aftertheevaluationchartsarecompletedandthesignificanceratingisestablishedforeachaspect,the
teamgoesoverthelistagaintoverifythattheresultsoftheanalysismakessenseandaregenerallyin
agreementwiththeintuitivejudgementoftheteam.Thesignificanceratingsystemisjustatooltohelp
understanddifferentissuesrelatedtotheaspect.Thefinalclassificationofthesignificanceofan
environmentalaspectisadecisionthattheteammembershavetomakefollowingtheirownjudgement.

Certaincategoriesofenvironmentalaspectsareautomaticallyclassifiedassignificantaspects,
irrespectiveofotherfactors.CriteriaforthisprioritysignificanceclassificationaredefinedinGuide
EPG3102.

ThecompletedevaluationchartsarethenpresentedtothetopmanagementforReviewandforpossible
identificationofadditionalsignificantaspectsthatmaybedictatedbypolicyconsiderations.

Theevaluationchartswiththefinalselectionofsignificantenvironmentalaspectsareapprovedand
signedoffbytheEnvironmentalRepresentativeandbythePresidentofthecompany.

FrequencyofreviewsoftheSignificantEnvironmentAspectswouldbecarriedoutatleastonceayear.

OngoingEvaluationofNewEnvironmentalAspects

NewaspectsaddedtotheEnvironmentalaspectlog(refertoProcedureEOP3101,Environmental
Aspects)areevaluatedbytheEMRandatleastoneotherpersonwhoismostfamiliarwiththeaspect.In
complexcases,orwhenalargernumberofdiverseaspectsneedtobeevaluated,theEMRassemblesa
multidisciplinaryteamtocarryouttheevaluation.

TheevaluationiscarriedoutusingtheEnvironmentalAspectEvaluationChart,andthesamemethods
andcriteriaasdefinedfortheevaluationofInitialEnvironmentalAspects(refertoGuideEPG3102).

Thecompletedevaluationchartisthenpresentedtothetopmanagementforreviewandforevaluation
againstpolicyconsiderations.

Whenanewsignificantaspectisselected,theEMRandthePresidentofthecompanyapproveandsign
offtheevaluationchart.
