ITEC Portfolio Artifact Reflection

1.3 Policies, Procedures, Programs, & Funding

Candidates research, recommend, and implement policies, procedures, programs, and
funding strategies to support implementation of funding strategies to support
implementation of the shared vision represented in the school, district, state, and federal
technology plans and guidelines. Funding strategies may include the development,
submission, and evaluation of formal grant proposals.
1. Briefly describe the artifact and the context in which it was created. What was/were
your individual contribution(s)?
As specified by the PSC 1.3, writing grants is an effective strategy for getting funding for
technology projects and initiatives. Writing a grant proposal also demonstrates my ability
to design a technology integrated project and a budget that aligns technological resources
to instructional priorities. The grant proposal that I created was concerning creating a
technology team made up entirely of students. The team will undergo training to become
google certified, basic trouble shooting certified, iPad and Chromebook certified, as well
as smart board trained. Once the students have completed the necessary training they
will be the leaders in the school when it comes with helping their peers in class as the
experts.

2. Explain how this artifact demonstrates mastery of the standard/element under which it
is placed.
In order to complete the Grant Proposal assignment I had to apply for the American
Honda Foundation Education Grant. The American Honda Foundation engages in grant
making that reflects the companys core values which greatly correlate with STEM. By
applying for this grant I had to complete an online grant application. This application
was in depth and required me to look up information on my school such as the NCIS
District and School ID. The grant application required a lesson plan outlining how the
students would be using the technology to create a student tech team. The grant funds
would be used to send the students to google training where they could be google
certified, under a google educator. The grant application also required me to create a
narrative explaining the long and short term goals of the funding. This grant is under the

shared vision of the school plan because students are becoming technology experts and
leaders in the school.
3. What did you learn from completing this artifact? What would you do differently to
improve the quality of the artifact or the process involved in creating the artifact?
Some valuable take away from completing this artifact was researching different types of
grants that are available to teachers in all fields. Through my research I also learned that
there are various ways that teachers can apply for grants. I applied for my grant in the
summer, which I also learned is not the ideal time to submit grants most of the grants that
I researched were only available during the fall and had expired.
4. How did the work that went into creating the artifact impact school improvement,
faculty development, or student learning? How can the impact be assessed?
Although my grant proposal did not receive funding I felt that it was a successful
assignment because I had not ever applied for a grant before. Teaching in the public
school system has its challenges and funding is always one that does not change that
often. Learning how to find grants and apply for a grant is very beneficial for teachers
and administration for the fact that great ideas can be funded without cutting out prior
great ideas.
