COMMUNIQUE DE PRESSE
SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT announces the signing of a 35 million
contract to build and operate a drinking water treatment plant in
India
SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT, through its subsidiary Degrmont, and its customer Bangalore Water
Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) signed a contract in November 2009 for designing,
building and operating (DBO) an extension for the drinking water production plant at the TK
Halli site, some 90 km from Bangalore, India's Silicon Valley.

After the forecast two-year design-build stage, Degrmont will fully operate and maintain the
plant for a period of seven years. This contract represents 33 million in turnover, with the
design-build part of the project financed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The plant, with the capacity to treat 600,000 m3/day of raw water from the Kaveri River, one of
the main rivers in southern India, will provide drinking water for more than 3 million inhabitants
of the city of Bangalore. At the end of the planned two-year design-build phase, Degrmont will
fully operate and maintain the plant for a period of seven years.
Degrmont's clarification technology AquaDAF will be implemented for the first time in India.
It has been selected for its effective treatment of moderately cloudy water containing algae, as
well as its highly compact design, making it easier to optimise the build time and costs at the
plant's rocky site.
This new facility will add to the existing plants 400,000 m3/day capacity, taking the total
capacity up to 1,000,000 m3/day, managed and operated by Degrmont through to 2012.
Once again, this major contract confirms the strong local presence and partnership-based
relations that Degrmont builds with its customers each day.

Operating in India since 1954, Degrmont has built more than 130 facilities, including drinking
water plants for Mumbai (supplying 4 million people), Delhi (3.5 million people) and Chennai (4
million people), as well as numerous wastewater treatment plants, including recently the plant
in Delhi (for 600,000 equivalent inhabitants). Since 1986, Degrmont has worked with a local
partner, the Indian group ANAND, the country's market leader for onboard automotive systems.

Within SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT, Degrmont has been the water treatment plant specialist for the past 70
years (1939 2009). Present in over 70 countries, with nearly 4,600 employees, Degrmont recorded
1,014 million in sales turnover in 2008. In India, Degrmont has 200 employees in the country, with
more than 60% of its activities focused on the municipal sector. Degrmont is the country's leading
supplier of turnkey water treatment plants.
