From the graph, the first peak falls at 3434.47 cm-. It has a broad trough
up to 1000 cm-1 which can be analysed as the OH-Stretch Carboxylic Acid. This
is the first functional group that can be determined easily.
Then we have a third peak at 1636.23 cm-1. It falls between 1600
1800cm-1. There are three types of bond that can fall in this region which are
C=O, C=C and C=N. However the peak is strong so it can be determined as C=O
bond. It can be carbonyl, acid, aldehyde, ester, ketone or amide.
The fourth and fifth medium peaks falls at 1412.79cm-1 and 1328.06cm-1
are medium two bands peak. The characteristics falls under ester functional
group. Hence we can determine that the second functional group found from the
graph is Ester.
In the fingerprint region which are from 600cm-1 to 1200cm-1 does not
give much information but we still can observed that aromatic ring do exist in
that region.
Compiling all the possible functional group exist from the graph which are
carboxylic acid, ester and aromatic ring, we can determined that the substance
might be acetylsalicylic acid, also known as Aspirin.
