Colonial Fair

Overall Task: Work with a partner to create a 3 panel booth about a specific
English colony.
This assignment will be broken down into three different parts. The final
product will be due at the end of the unit.

The following is what needs to be in each part of the assignment.

Part 1 (Left panel):

What country originally founded your colony and how it became

English
The Relationship your colony has with native Americans include the
relationship with the original founders and also the colonists
A Map of the region your colony is in with your colony highlighted
Pictures to illustrate your information

Part 2 (Middle Panel):

Information and pictures on the following topics about your colony

o People and reasons for settlement
o Climate and geography
o Economy and occupations
o Religion
o Government

Part 3 (Right Panel):

Information and pictures on the following topics about your colony

o Slavery
o Rural or Urban life
o Colonial rights
o Crime and Punishment
o Society class
o Education
o Family life and leisure activities
o Food
The effect colonization had on the three of the following groups
o wealthy landowners,
o farmers,
o merchants,
o indentured servants,
o laborers and the poor,
o women,
o enslaved people,
o free Africans,
o American Indians

Work with your group to create an exciting, informative booth that uses a3
panel poster, a song, and presentation to encourage others in the class to
settle inyour colony. Follow the steps below.
____ Step 1: Review the roles.
Copywriter: You will lead the group during Step 2 to write a slogan and you
are also responsible for editing all the information on the poster.
Graphic Artist: You will lead the group during Step 3 to create the layout of
the Poster and to sketch/find visuals that show key features of your colony.
Salesperson: You will lead the group during Step 4 to create a memorable
presentation about your colony
Advertising Director: During Step 5, you will lead the group to create a
musical jingle for the sales presentation.
____ Step 2: Write a slogan that summarizes your colonys most outstanding
feature. For example, for New Jersey, you might write, New Jersey: Land of
Great Variety. After you have brainstormed some ideas, have the Copywriter
write your slogan below.

____ Step 3: Sketch the layout and visuals for the brochure.
Your tri-fold should be visually appealing, informative, and creative. It must
contain multiple visuals that reinforce the ideas in your slogan and short
paragraphs. After you have brainstormed some ideas, have the Graphic Artist
quickly sketch the layout of the brochure and the four visuals in the space
below.

____ Step 4: Brainstorm ideas for a presentation.

Each group will have three minutes to present your tri-fold to the class Make
the presentation educational and entertaining. The presentation must
include one entertaining sales gimmick, such as distributing coupons or
flyers that promote one of your colonys best features. In the space below,
have the Salesperson outline the main ideas and the sales gimmick to
include in the presentation.

____ Step 5: Brainstorm ideas for a musical jingle.

The sales presentation must also include a musical jingle that promotes your
colony. You may create your own tune or use the tune of a well-known song
or commercial. After you have brain-stormed some ideas, help the
Advertising Director write a four-line jingle in the space below.

____Step 6: Create the final product

Take all of the previous steps and combine them into one error free,
creative, organized product.

____ Step 7: Rehearse the presentation. Rehearse the presentation and song.
