One of the most attractive, green picnic and camping areas in the district.
Shaded by Messmate Stringybark (E. obliqua) and surrounded by a dense understory of musk. The reasonably
large clearing has short grass but most sites slope. Bird life prolific. Horse yard nearby. The adjacent gully has
an upperstory of Blackwood and Hazel Pomaderris with an understory of Paperbark, creepers, tree ferns,
fishbone fern, madden hair fern and many others near the western edge of their range. Originally a camping
site and river ford for bullock teams linking Heywood with settlements to the north it now plays a similar role as
a camp site for the Great South West Walking Trail. In the intervening years the Jackass Sawmill was
established on the south bank of the Fitzroy River near the bridge.

A rather scruffy, windblown country recreation reserve. A few cypress provide some shade and protection on
one boundary. Powered sites extend along the oval fence, with no shade. All sites level.
Being close to the Gellibrand Rv this camp ground appeals to fishing enthusiasts, but otherwise the small
caravan park behind the Princetown general store may be better value.
