Paging co-ordination means that the network sends CS paging messages on the PS channel, i.e., on the GPRS/EDGE
paging channel or on the GPRS/EDGE traffic channel, so the MS needs only to monitor that channel.

GPRS/EDGE Power Control
Purpose of GPRS/EDGE power control
Save the power
Reduce the interference of the network
GPRS/EDGE power control is complex than GSM for discontinuous transmission
Normally now just uplink power control is implemented
GPRS/EDGE Power Control
According GPRS/EDGE principle, GPRS/EDGE MS output power as below
Pch = Min (o - ch *( C+48) , Pmax )
Pch: The PDCH output power in every independent uplink link, the unit is dBm;
o: 39dBm for GSM 900, 36dBm for DCS1800
ch: Gamma, specified power control parameter for MS and the channel
: Alpha, set by the network side. For open-loop power control, it is 1.0
C: the receiving signal level of MS

GPRS/EDGE Channel Priority

Pmax: the maximum allowed transmit power for MS. If PBCCH exists, it is
GPRS/EDGE_MS_TXPWR_MAX_CCH; otherwise, it is MS_TXPWR_MAX_CCH.

GPRS/EDGE Cell Reselection
During ready and standby mode, MS will occur cell reselection
MS-controlled Cell reselection(also called autonomous cell reselection) will be triggered upon the following 5 kinds of
conditions
Current serving cell is prohibited

Down link fails(DSC)

C1servingcell <0 for 5s
MS starts a cell reselection if the access times exceed [MS MAX

GPRS/EDGE Cell Reselection
If PBCCH no exists, the cell reselection is basically the same as GSM cell reselection
When the two cells locates in the different routing areas or the
MS is in READY mode, the C2N must be greater than C2S+CRH (>5s)
When the two cells locates in the same routing area and the MS is in STANDBY mode, the C2 N must be greater than
C2S (>5s)

NC2 Feature
In the NC2 mode and Ready state, the MS periodically sends packet measurement reports to the BSC. The BSC
determines whether to perform cell reselection.
The NC2 feature supports
Trigger Condition to NC2 Procedure
In NC2 mode, any of the following events triggers a networkcontrolled cell reselection.
The MS signal strength keeps falling, and a neighboring cell with stronger signal strength exists.
The MS signal quality keeps deteriorating, and a neighboring cell with better signal quality exists.
The serving cell of the MS is overloaded, and a neighboring cell with lighter load and stronger signal strength exists.

The SGSN indicates that the RAT(such as, GERAN, UTRAN, or EUTRAN) suitable for the MS is different from the
current RAT.
In Standby state, the MS initiates autonomous cell reselection regardless of the NC mode.
Data Configuration of NC2
1. Run the BSC6900 MML command SET GCELLGPRS. In this step, set the parameters as follows
Data Configuration of NC2
NACC(Network Assisted Cell Change)
In NC0/NC1 mode and packet transfer mode, the MS requests the SI targetcell from the BSC when performing cell
reselection.
Trigger Condition to NACC Procedure
