MEMB483 Capstone Design Proposal/Statement of Work outlines

Instruction to students:
The dateline for Proposal/Statement of Work submission is Friday, 13th November 2015, before
5pm. Please submit your proposal to BN, ground floor office (counter) and signed your name after
submission. Please note that I will not accept any late report submission. The guideline for preparing
your proposal is given below.
Proposal Outline
The proposal/statement of work must contain these sections, although the teams have some flexibility
in chapter/section titles, as appropriate to their project.
1. INTRODUCTION/BACKGROUND
1.1. Introduction -- what the project is, objectives, relevance, benefits, etc.
1.2. Project Description verbatim, from sponsor
1.3. Project Objectives
1.4. Original System description of system as it existed before the project began, if appropriate
1.4.1. Original System Structure physical structure, layout, dimensions, etc.
1.4.2. Original System Operation how it worked
1.4.3. Original System Performance how well it performed, with respect to performance
metrics
1.4.4. Original System Deficiencies why it was not satisfactory, especially with respect to
requirements
2. CUSTOMER AND ENGINEERING REQUIREMENTS
2.1. Customer Requirements (CRs) Customer Requirements and weightings
2.2. Engineering Requirements (ERs) verifiable Engineering Requirements
3. EXISTING DESIGNS/DESIGN RESEARCH A clear description of how existing designs were
researched. Description of alternative design approaches and methods, based on a system analysis
/ functional decomposition
3.1. Design Research how the existing designs were identified, including web research and
benchmarking
3.2. System Level of the existing design at least three system-level designs (if any)
3.2.1. Existing Design #1
