INAUGURAL ADDRESS OF PRESIDENT RODRIGO DUTERTE

(Reaction Paper)

All Filipinos have the right of suffrage on who we want to serve in our country;
it is our right to choose the officials to whom we entrust the exercise of the powers of
government. And last May 9, 2016 we exercised this right as we trooped to the polls
and placed our votes for the officials that will serve in our Senate and several other
positions in the government for the coming years. It is something we all have a duty
to participate in. When it comes to the government, the people are never lacking in
complaints. We want to see changes in the economy, in healthcare, in education,
and much more. We want to see real changes happen in the country. However, how
can we be expected to achieve real change if we dont take part in the vehicle that
can help us bring that change about? And now, as the election properly successes,
we have now the new President, as the people chose, the new President, Rodrigo
Roa Duterte.

As I heard his Inauguration speech, I have high hopes for his

administration. Here are my reactions on President Dutertes speech:

His call for unity: on his introduction, President Duterte called for the unity to
his people. We all know that all the previous presidents of the Philippines had called
for unity, but when I heard it from President Duterte, I see his sincere voice and the
sincerity in his eyes to unite the hearts and minds of every Filipino.
No leader, however strong, can succeed at anything of national
importance or significance unless he has the support and cooperation of
the people he is tasked to lead and sworn to serve
President, prays for the support and cooperation of his people, which we, as
human, has the right to choose whether to give our support or not, however, it is for
our benefits if we will just obey as we all know that it is for our own good. I was

encouraged with this call for unity that we Filipinos should unite as one and support,
help and cooperate with our President for his purpose with our country. I think Pres.
Duterte is very sincere and serious with this one.

The Real Problem: Erosion of faith and trust in government

President Duterte revealed the real problems in the country and I am agree
with him on this. President determined the real problem of the Philippines and by
determining the problem, he could know where to start on how to solve the problem.
His priorities as President are, fighting corruption, criminality ad drugs.
During the last Administration, the Human Rights of every human was
abused, we used our freedom to do what we want, the criminals continued their
wrong ways of selling and using bawal na gamot which many innocents were
affected, children was raped, and killed, because of our stubbornness.
As his first order of business, Presiden Duterte ordered all the government
agencies to speed up the processing of government agencies to speed up the
processing of government document and to eliminate redundancies.
President Duterte quote the words of National Artist, F. Sionil Jose,:
we have become our own worst enemies. And we must have the
courage and the will to change ourselves
The recognition of this problem is the first time I have ever heard about it.
This is an administration that seeks recovery or our lost dignity as a Filipino.
President Duterte said, love of country, subordination of personal
interests to the common good, concern and care for the helpless and the
impoverished- these are among the lost and faded values that we seek to
recover and revitalize as we commence our journey toward a better
Philippine.
Preident Duterte borrowed quotes from famous US President and this shows
the kind of leadership that he will emulate.

the test of government is not whether we add more to the

abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide for those
who have little. Franklin Roosevelt.
Duterte will be a champion of the poor and reading this we might see major
programs in poverty alleviation and providing more opportunity for those who have
less in life.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong; you
cannot help the poor by discouraging the rich; you cannot help the
wage earner by pulling down the wage payer, you cannot further the
brotherhood by inciting class hatred among men Abraham Lincoln.
He is projecting that he will be a President for all, that he will not favor anyone
and instead will work together for our country. It is very inspiring that our President
sees the value of everyone, even to the poor. This is the very first time I heard and
feel it from the President of the Philippines.
Overall, I admire him now more than ever. I have high hopes for his
administration and I believe that this is the first time that a President realized the real
problem of this country. Our new President needs our whole hearted support and we
should give it to him. It is our right to have a country that is criminality free and its all
start from us. Let us unite and follow on his ordinances for our own good and of our
country.
