beforeworkingonmachine.
Personalinjuryordeathcanresultfromescapingfluidunderpressure.
Escapingfluidunderpressure,evenaverysmallpinholesizeleak,can
penetratebodytissueandcauseseriousinjuryandpossibledeath.If
fluidisinjectedintoyourskin,itmustbetreatedimmediatelybya
doctorfamiliarwiththistypeofinjury.
Alwaysuseaboardorcardboardwhencheckingforaleak.
NOTICE
Caremustbetakentoensurethatfluidsarecontainedduring
performanceofinspection,maintenance,testing,adjustingandrepair
oftheproduct.Bepreparedtocollectthefluidwithsuitablecontainers
beforeopeninganycompartmentordisassemblinganycomponent
containingfluids.

Disposeofallfluidsaccordingtolocalregulationsandmandates.
Performancetestsforthesteeringsystemcanbeusedforadiagnosisofpoorperformanceandfor
findingthesourceofoilleaksinsidethehydraulicsystem.
Thissectionprovidesprobablecausestoaknownproblem.Sincetheremaybeseveralprobable
causes,specificinspectionsorspecificinstrumenttestsmayberecommended.Theseinspectionsand
testswillhelptoidentifythecausethatismostprobable.
Note:Makesurethatyouusehydraulicoilwiththecorrectviscosityfortheambienttemperatureand
fortheoperatingconditions.Todeterminethecorrectoilviscosity,seethereferencethatfollows.

3.Thepilotvalvespoolisbinding.
4.Thecamandthefollowerforthepilotvalveisbinding.
Problem2:ThesteeringwheelwillnotreturntotheNEUTRALposition.Themachineis
steeringallofthetime.
Probablecauses:
1.Theportplateinthepilotvalveisbinding.
2.Oneorbothoftheconstantvelocityjointsthatareinthesteeringshaftarebinding.
3.Thepilotvalvespoolisbinding.
4.Thecamandthefollowerforthepilotvalveisbinding.
5.Thetorsionspringinthepilotvalveisbroken.

2.Thebackupreliefvalveinthemainsteeringcontrolvalveisstuckopen.
3.Thebackupreliefvalveinthemainsteeringcontrolvalveisleaking.
Problem7:Themachinedoesnotturnwhenthesteeringwheelisturned.

1.Thepilotvalveisfaulty.

5.Aftertheoilhasreachednormaloperatingtemperature,lowerthebladeuntilthebladeisslightly
offtheground.Runtheengineathighidle.
6.Recordthepressurereadingonthepressuregauge.Thepressurereadingshouldnotexceed5200
kPa(750psi).
7.Stoptheengine.Lowerthebladeandanyattachmenttotheground.
Note:Youshouldnotadjustthesteeringpumponlybecauseoftheresultsofthistest.Ifthepressure
readingisnotcorrect,performthetestforthemarginpressure.Ifthemarginpressureisnotcorrect,
youneedtoadjusttheflowcompensatorvalve.

1.Movethemachinetoasmoothhorizontallocation.Moveawayfromworkingmachinesand
personnel.Lowertheattachmentstotheground.
2.Allowonlyoneoperatoronthemachine.Keepallpersonnelawayfromthemachineorinthe
viewoftheoperator.
3.Engagetheparkingbrake.
PerformanceTest
SteeringCycleTime
Thesteeringtimeisaffectedbytheamountofoilflowthatisproducedbythesteeringpump.Check
thesteeringtimesinordertodetermineifthereisaproblemwiththesteeringpump.
1.Performthemachinepreparationfortesting.
2.Warmthehydraulicoiltonormaloperatingtemperature.Raisethebucketslightlyoffthe
ground.
3.Maintaintheenginespeedathighidle.
4.Recordthesteeringtimefromstoptostop.Thesteeringtimeshouldbe3.0.05secondsathigh
idle.
5.Lowertheboomandplacethebucketflatontheground.
6.Reduceenginespeedtolowidle.
7.Stoptheengine.
Comparethetestresultswiththecycletimesthatarelisted.Thesteeringpumpshouldbeworking
properlyifthecycletimesmatchthecycletimesthatarelisted.
Ifthecycletimesarenotcorrectoneofthefollowingconditionsmaybepresent:
Thepressuresettingforthebackupreliefvalveisnotwithinspecifications.
Thepumpisnotupstroking.
Thepumpmayhaveexcessivewear.
Themainreliefpressureshouldbemeasured.Ifthemainreliefpressureislow,thecycletimesshould
beretestedafterthemainreliefpressurehasbeencorrected.

1.Starttheengineandruntheengineathighidle.Allowtheoiltemperaturetoreachthenormal
operatingtemperature.
2.Actuateallcylindersthroughaminimumoftenfullcycles.
3.Lowerthebucketandanyattachmentstotheground.
4.Stoptheengine.
5.Moveallcontrolleversandbrakepedalsthroughallpositionsinordertoreleaseanypressurein
thehydraulicsystem.

willrelieveanypressurethatmaybepresentintheimplementhydraulicsystem.Turnthekey
startswitchtotheOFFposition.
3.Turnthesteeringwheelseveraltimesinbothdirectionsinordertorelievethepressureinthe
steeringsystem.
