1.0 RATIONALE
The students on completion of 3rd, 4th and 5th semesters will be placed in identified
industries to gain practical working experience. The subjects re- lating to automobile

engineering studied in 1st year, 3rd,4th and 5th semes- ters at the polytechnic will serve
as useful basis for the proposed industrial training.
OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of the course the student shall be able to
Realization of the following broad objectives are expected from the
students on completion of the industrial training program.

Practice the dismantling and assembling of the engine


Practice the replacement of the parts of clutch assembly
Repair the gear box
Adjust the Differential
Repair steering gear box
Repair the rear axle
Repair the braking system
Balance and align the wheels
Observe the various safety precautions
Practice the job card preparation

EVALUATION

COURSE CONTENT
The following activities are envisaged in the course at study

Identification and selection of a product services with an aim to set small scale
industry

Conduct a detailed market survey

Preparation of production drawings

4.

List out the raw materials, equipment and tools needed for manufactur- ing a specific
quantity

5.

Develop a prototype model of the product in workshop (if possible) with the
available facilities in the polytechnics

6.

Explore the various financial arrangements to start the manufacturing of the product
under technocrat scheme in small scale industrial sector.

7.

Make a detailed survey of requirements of the departments of industry, municipal,


health inspectorate of factories , electrical inspectorate, banks other financial
agencies etc., for starting an industry
