Faculty Learning Communities (FLC)

This Faculty Learning Community (FLC) is open to CSU Stanislaus
faculty(full and parttime) who areteachingorplanningafullyonline
course (faculty teaching hybrid courses that are 8099% online will
be accepted, but priority goes to 100% online due to the
requirements of the grant). The project is designed to help you
create, reflect on, or redevelop/revise an online course that can
meetexpectations in at least 75% of the objectives included inthe
Quality Online Learning and Teaching (QOLT) assessment
instrument (for more info about QOLT, please see
http://bit.ly/1F2DHhj
) and to develop skills in self and
peerevaluation of online courses. Theproposedcoursecanbe one
you areteaching during thecourseoftheFLC. Wehope that novice
and experienced online instructors will participate as we develop a
stronger community of faculty engaged with online teaching. This
project isfunded bygrantfromtheCSUChancellorsOfficeintended
tosupportqualityassuranceinonlineteachingandlearning.

The FLC will involve approximately 20 hours of FLC gatherings


(face to face and online) in addition to independent work on course
development, and faculty will be compensated with $1000 in faculty
developmentfunds.

Application
There are 8 funded spaces in the FLC, and applications will be
reviewed in the order submitted. The first 8 who submit completed
applications and meet the selection criteria will be included in the
FLCandare eligible for the facultydevelopmentfunds. Facultywho
dont meet the selection criteria may participate in some or all FLC
sessions but will not be eligible for the funds. Faculty who have
previously participated in a QOLT/QA FLC are eligible to participate
again, but priority will be given to firsttime participants. To apply,

FLC activitieswill occurin both facetoface and online modalities.


Faculty participants will obtain greater understanding of the
similarities and differencesbetweenfacetoface,hybrid,andonline
instruction become prepared to self and peerevaluate courses
utilizing the QOLT rubric and develop knowledgeandskillstohelp
them to design and facilitate an online course that meets QOLT
criteriainthefollowingareas:

5. FacilitationandInstruction

At theendoftheproject,facultydevelopmentfundswillbeprovided
to those whoparticipatedinallFLCactivitiesandhavedevelopeda
course meeting expectations in at least 75% of the relevant
objectives indicated in the QOLT rubric via self and
peerevaluations.

To be ready for evaluation,acoursemustbeloadedintoa learning


management system (e.g., Blackboard or Moodle), and include
drafts of all course orientation/overview materials, syllabus and
assignments, and at least 40% of instructional content (more is
preferable).

Must beaCSUStanislausfacultymemberwhoisteaching
or planning a fully online course (8099% hybrid online
courseswillbeallowedifspaceisavailable)
MustagreetoparticipateinallscheduledFLCactivities.
Must agree to have an online course developed by the
assigned date that will be self and peerevaluated using
the QOLT instrument (stipend available to faculty whose
course meets expectations on atleast75%oftherelevant
QOLTobjectives)
Must agree to peerevaluate a course by the assigned
date
Must submit final project materials to the FLC facilitators
bytheassigneddate
