Course Description


The Law on Media and the Arts is a course on the legal principles governing the constitutional
guarantee of Freedom of Expression. The course likewise covers various laws, rules and regulations on the
responsible exercise of this right and the utilization of media, forms of expression and the arts, including
acceptable and legal forms of expression as opposed to those which may rightfully be regulated.

Course Objectives


To provide the students with an overview of the essential Philippine laws governing various forms of
expression and the arts and their basic principles with emphasis on their practical application to actual practice
of media, whether in movies, television, radio and newspapers, advertising and other areas where freedom of
expression is relevant. This course will likewise create awareness within the student of the regulations that
need to be complied with for different types of expression and media as well as an understanding of their basic
rights and obligations in connection thereto.

Classroom Policies

1.
Attendance will be taken every meeting. Each student is allowed 3 absences for the
semester. Students exceeding 3 absences will get a W for a final grade. Being late for more than 30 minutes
shall be considered as an absence.

2.
Because of the policy imposed in the JGSOM, the following are not allowed inside the
classroom:

a.
eating / drinking

b.
smoking

c.
littering

3.
Plagiarism, cheating and other forms of intellectual dishonesty will be dealt with seriously in
accordance with school rules and regulations.

4.
Recitation will be conducted as often as time would allow. Quizzes will be given on topics
previously discussed only.

5.
Students who need to consult with me, other than during the consultation hour, may get in
touch with me using the contact details to be given. Consultation will not be allowed during class.

6.
Make up quizzes and test will be allowed only in very meritorious cases. No student may
request for additional work to improve his / her grade.

7.
Even if I am late please wait for me unless I call and say that I will not be arriving.

8.
The dress code will be enforced. Failure to comply will mean not being allowed to enter the
class and absence.
