ABSTRACT

Pancreatic tumors are tumors derived from exocrine and endocrine pancreatic
tissue. Approximately 90% of pancreatic tumors are malignant tumors of
pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma or called pancreatic cancer. Pancreatic cancer
ranks 12th most frequent cancer in the world with 338,000 new cases diagnosed in
2012 and in the United States, pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of
death. The majority of pancreatic cancer patients were diagnosed in late stadium
due to non-specific early clinical symptoms, as a result patients present with
advanced state and is one of the poor prognosis of cancer.
The aim of this study is to describe the characteristics of pancreatic cancer at
RSUP H. Adam Malik Medan in 2011-2014, including the incidence, age, sex,
risk factors, location of the cancer, tumor marker, and stage pancreatic cancer.
This research method is a descriptive cross-sectional design. The population in
this study were all patients with pancreatic cancer at RSUP H. Adam Malik
Medan from January 2011 to December 2014. Samples were taken by total
sampling method.
The results showed that the incidence of pancreatic cancer is highest in 2013
(38.4%) in the age group 41-50 years and 51-60 years respectively (30.2%),
common in women (53.5% ). The most frequent risk factors are diabetes (11.6%).
The location of pancreatic cancer that most of the head (98.8%). Examination of
tumor marker most widely used in patients with pancreatic cancer is CA 19-9 and
CEA (29.1%) and most patients come in stage IB (9.3%).
